Panti's speech on homophobia.

panti noble

Panti Bliss is an Irish gay drag queen. This speech is brilliant, cuts to the core about the insidious impact of homophobia. Everyone should watch this before ever complaining about being labeled homophobic.

very good.  thanks robi.

Glad you watched it Kika. Hope others do and perhaps comment so will give it another round.

Thanks to whoever in YLC put the video up :).

Wow, what a powerful speech. I hate to hear people putting down Gay people. I used to be a carer for Aids victims. Even many of our friends were Gay. We had the best parties. When the Gay Mardi Gras was on, they wanted my husband to dress up in drag and go on one of the floats for Community Support Network. They dressed him up and I must admit he wasn't terribly attractive. It was all in fun. Sadly to say many of these lovely people have now passed away. People should never run them down , they too are human beings and deserve our respect.

Lovely comment Hola and brought a smile from me for your hubby. Sadly I too lost some good friends and acquaintances during the AIDS epidemic before they developed the antiretroviral drugs.

Rory O'Neil is a gay guy who entertains as drag queen identity Panti Bliss in Ireland. He was interviewed (as Rory) on RTE Television's Saturday Night Show in 2014 and during the interview discussed the effects of homophobia on gay people and named some Irish journalists who wrote homophobic articles in the press. As a result both he and the television station were sued for defamation by the journalists. RTE issued an apology and made an early pay out of €85,000 to those suing in effort to make it all go away before getting to court. There was huge protest about RTE's action and the Abbey Theatre invited Rory O'Neil as Panti Bliss to deliver a speech. The ten minute speech was so powerful it went viral and put an end to the mockery of the attempted suits and the apology issued by RTE to those who were suing.

The speech is delivered from the heart which is what makes it so powerful and it cuts to the core about how insidious homophobia is and the impact it has on gay people whether out and proud or not.

That was a brilliant speech and brought me to tears.

Me too Rod63.

Homophobia? a word coined to use against any decent person who knows that sodomites, catamites and lesbians are filthy reprobates.

THUS I suffer from homophobia because I believe God created Adam and Eve and not Adam and Steve,

I suffer from homophobia because I believe children should have a mum and dad,

I suffer from homophobia because I believe marriage is between a man and a woman,

I suffer from homophobia because I believe homosexuality is unatural,

I suffer from homophobia because I believe in righteousness, holiness and purity,

I suffer from homophobia because I think about whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report.

If you believe in God, you would know thats/he created everything, even those you despise.

You views are very un-Christian so itappears you are not a Christian.

Thank  goodness hateful views like yours are rare these days.

NO HATE. just the truth....

I've got some real bad news for anyone who claims to be a Christian and is or supports the sodomites, catamites and lesbians, who supports same sex marriage, who supports the mardi gras......that news is this..... YOU are NOT a CHRISTIAN

THE HOLY BIBLE; GOD DECLARES HOMOSEXUALITY IS AN ABOMINATION www.richard-2782.net/abom.htm

I am THE GREAT OFFENDER www.richard-2782.net/thegreatoffender.htm

SAME SEX MARRIAGE IS REPROBATE www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jcs68B15yqo

It was never a problem until some stupid legislator decided that I must accept Stevie as a female.  If the gay promoters were correct, God would have created Adam & Stevie & the problem would have died away in a few short years & we would not have needed for God to have his only son nailed up on the cross.  Don't misquote me.  I am in favour of gay men.  The more we have, the more female females we have left for us straight men.  I have no objection whatsoever to Stevie having his penis removed & his hips altered so that he can bear children.  BUT, for God's sake don't allow them to adopt the children that are created by a joining of a man & a woman, as God intended.  I know how we can cure the whole problem of same sex marriage.  Let the Gay community have the marriage & the straight people can drop marriage & replace it with Parental Joining.  Just remember that the Law makers can forbid anti gay discussions,  BUT they can't stop anti gay thoughts.

PIXAPD,

Please watch and listen to Panti's speech and then comment as to whether it moved you or not. I imagine that most Christians (and not just Christians of course but most people) would respond with empathy and compassionate understanding so I am interested to know your response to the speech rather than repetitious, hollow dogma.

Brilliant video Robi, the anti Gay remarks on here  just go to prove how narrow minded and homophobic some people are and the intolerable treatment some Gays are subjected to by similar bigots. Panti is a much better person than them.

Innes,

Your comment is highlighting what Panti is saying but probably not in the way you might think. Watch and listen to the speech and tell us then what you think of it instead of trotting out the same old homophobic nonsense. I would actually like to know on this thread how people respond to the speech and the deep emotionally intelligent thoughts delivered by this man on the subject of homophobia. I don't think any intelligent person could listen to this speech and not be moved to deeper understanding.

So true Vivity.

Robi, Yes, I have listened to that speech & agree with every word that he says.  BUT, let me get in a few words whilst it is still legal under the Laws of free speech.  I am NOT homophobic.  I pick my friends & acquantances from the people I like & respect.  I could not care one iota whether they are Gay, Muslims, Catholics or even school teachers,  AS LONG AS THEY DON'T WANT ME TO CHANGE.  I am straight, so will somebody please explain why I should be ashamed of that.  Why must I be forced to see black people as black?  I have a friend who is a retired, half Aborigine judge.  He is a highly intelligent, highly educated, very wise man.  I try to treat him as an equal, but I can't.  I am nowhere near his equal.  He has achieved a lot more in his life than I have & I look up to him because he has never tried to put me in the position of being one of those ignorant whites who insist on being a white Aborigine.

Innes, nobody has said you should be ashamed for being straight. From what you are saying I suspect you did not understand the speech.

I am not moved by any sodomite, catamite, lesbian or any other reprobate..they are an abomination unto the Lord

There is NO empathy or compassionate understanding, but that they should repent and turn from their wickedness

Born a male you are a male, born a female you are a female..there are NO its, bits or pieces

Point being that all who support these ones are themselves reprobates

You sound like a thorougly nasty, vindictive person PIXAPD. I hope you can find it in your cold heart someday to show some compassion to those you currrently despise.

The "Lord" must absolutely hate you using him/her as an excuse for your nastiness.

I have no wish to engage with you any further.

ROD..You can do as you want...but the reprobates shall perish and you also...NONE shall inherit the kingdom of God, except that they repent and turn from their evil way.

Absolutely brilliant

All I can say is, what happened to 'live and let live'.....

We are all God's people on this earth, we walk the same and we talk the same (albeit in different languages) all our blood is red and we all have feelings... as long as others don't expect me to change to their ways and they don't hurt me or mine I have no problem with anyone....

Good thread Robi....

Pixapd fails to see that we shall ALL PERISH - it is the wheel of life. I think those religious zealots who think that when they die they will be greeted by angels blowing trumpets and a deity sitting on a cloud are destined for HUGE disappointment. When I was young, I struck many so-called religious people like pixapd - undoubtebly why I am now devoutly agnostic. I have no doubt that a pixapd born in the middle ages would be happily drowning "witches", torturing innocents and burning people at the stake. Gay people are different to the rest of us - not better and not worse, just different. Do we persecute and revile people with deformities?....albinos?...the mentally ill?, people with "different" religious or political leanings? No, generally, we have risen above such bigotry - well, most of us anyway. There are no pixapd's among my friends and acquaintances, but there are certainly a few gays.

The road to intellectual enlightenment is a long and tortuous path.

What the hell has God got to do with anything. Your sexuality does not define you as a person. Religious bigotry as shown on this site is the reason thousands upon thousands of people have died for nothing more than a man made myth. Be religious if you want but respect people for who they are, not their sexuality. And yes, I am a total aethiest and think the whole concept of God is childish but I do not put people down for believing, just their "Christian" prejudice.

An awful lot of the loudest, self-proclaimed Christians seem to have forgotten that Jesus said "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."

Finally got a chance to watch this speech - what an amazing public speaker, getting to the core of this issue.  Think I might watch it again.

Yeah I have wanted to watch it several times too CindyLou....I don't usually feel that way about speeches.
