PENSIONER RENTALS
recently I have tried to rent a house privately, but was rejected as my pension is not en ough for the real estate to allow me to rent. They tell me that rent is 30% of income. One agent actually said that a single mum with kids would get preference as the gov. PAID THEM MORE THAN A PENSIONER. Sickening is it not. Surely there are exceptions to this rule.

hi suanne here. i am a pensioner too and i have rented properties over the years .do you receive a pensioner rent assistance .this is about $ 93, per fortnight ,depending on what the rental of the properties are .i don't think they are allowed to refuse you rental due to discrimination and anyway with your pension and the rent assisitance you would be able to afford to rent just get something around $ 125 a week best of luck ...suanne
