Playlists to help you cook perfect pasta

Italian pasta brand Barilla has come up with a foolproof way to cook perfect pasta, creating Spotify playlists that help measure the cooking time correctly.

The company has created eight playlists of varying lengths, to accommodate cooking different types of pasta.

“The secret for cooking pasta to perfection? The right cooking time,” the company press release explains. "Playlist Timer is a series of playlists whose durations correspond to the cooking time of Barilla's most loved pasta shapes.

“An actual kitchen timer on Spotify which turns the waiting into a chance to listen to good music, entertain yourself and discover the covers of the playlists, illustrated by eight Italian artists of international calibre.”

Listeners can choose from Mixtape Spaghetti, Boom Bap Fusilli, Pleasant Melancholy Penne, and Moody Day Linguine.

International artists like The Beach Boys and The Smiths, as well as tracks by popular Italian artists, feature on the playlists.

In the microvawe, just have to press one button and they come out aldente every time.

I'm 76 years young. My Grandfather, then my Father taught me to cook pasta by using just 3 things. The first was the timer according to the manufacturer, the second was to add a dash of table salt to the water, & the last was to add a half teaspoon of olive oil to the water. The water should be at the boil before adding the pasta, salt & oil. Why the oil ? It completely stops the cooked pasta from sticking together, either in the water & after it is taken out. Try it. It's a winner.
