Please lift the Age Pension petition

This Petition may interest those who rely on the age pension.

Seem age pensioners are apthethic and not lining up to sign up for a better life on a larger pesnion than today's which lets face it is measly to say the least.

Will not be signing unless the pension is mafe universal.

Sorry - think its adequate for those who didnt save or need it as a safety net

Anyone who has worked and paid income tax has paid for their age pension with the 7% levy.  that all parties today say never happened. But it did. UK and Australia brought  in pensions for the retired in early 1900's and then later, decided to impose a levy via taxes, so those working paid into the Pension Fund and as people retired these pensions were then paid out of it.

In 1950 Menzies with the agreement of Labor, decided that the money in this fund would go a long way to pay down the debt from WW2. And they took out that money, worth billions in our money today, and sent it to the Consolidated Revenue. But the regulations re Levy of 7% went with it. So when they repealed the Act - the levy wasnt included.

Today all who pay income taxes pay this levy.

And when John Howard extended the consessions to SFR he said that they had paid but had never drawn down on the age pension.

Later he withdrew this - on the orders  some said of the 'back room boys"  who run the Liberal Party.  Just as Labor has its own backroom boys. PM's of either have to follow party orders.

Now today Labor Nats Liberals all speak with one voice. Never Happened. Yet it is part of history and Hansard or was, Maybe taken out there now too.

Keating brought in Super because of cost of the age pension - should have just upped the levy - but now people retiring have both super and age pension in part until their super is enough supposedly.

Uk residents who have worked and paid NH along with the contribution of their employers can claim the UK State Pension. But have to have paid in for certain number of years etc and terms and conditions apply.

If anyone here has worked there, go to website of the British Pensioners in Australia and join for help in claiming etc. Can still get all or part Age Pension here depending on amount - rules for extra income apply for age pension.

UK has extended its time for working too so that those arrivals in their own immigation influx - cant automatically get the state pension and leave.

The Bexit yes was in part,  to stop immigration from Euopeans who. when not working claim the dole for themselves , and family back in say Poland and other places.

Again means money paid in by working families for State Pensions and welfare via income taxes is part not being spent in UK - but helping other countries etc.

Meanwhile - handouts galore for younger folk who may not have worked and contributed as much as those struggling today with high cost of energy leading to higher cost of living and health failing in old age, are living in poverty. Yet we hear nothing but increase New Start.

Have some Compassion! Sign I did. As I do for any worth cause.

Even is you yourself are well off enough to look down on those who arent. Most of these are white Aussies from UK and Europe who either fought in WW2 or kept the home fires burning. And Australia free. Realist not racist.

BTW I think you mean Universial wage rather than pension.- a Left wing dream - as usual insane - who is going to pay for it?

Are they intending to nationalize all companies etc to gain the profits to pay this universal wage?

Money doesnt grow on trees. It has to be earned.

No I mean universal pension - ie no income or asset test

why should only those who didnt save get an ever increasing pension

BigV, all of these people in the picture are pensioners.

@reagan nut sur what the point is - not all in the pic lok to be over 65 certainly not the lady doing to class.

and we're discussing Age Pension.

BigV, age pension covers a lot of ground. I am trying to convey to you that the key is budgeting! The cruising world is overrun with pensioners who know how to budget. For e.g. we have a pensioners day in one of our clubs. Great people, what the couples do is live on one pension and use the other for fun things like cruises. Most of them own their own homes, maybe that's how they can do it. See the pic below? That's the ark cruise and it's full!

You can even go jet skiing if you know how to budget

You sure it's the "ark" Reagan? Isn't that the thingy Noah used?

Says those who are not on a pension full stop - those who have enough savings to cover any emergency and indulge in cruises and other luxuries.

Those who have no savings and live entirely on pension do not have such luxuries to indulge in, even if they do own their own house.
