Pot now legal in Canada

Marijuana was decriminalised in Canada this week, making it only the second country to legalise the drug.

On Wednesday, a spokesman for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted that the day marked the end of “the failed prohibition of marijuana” in Canada, and that legalisation would take power from organised crime and prevent young people from obtaining the drug.

The long queues waiting for the government-run pot stores to open their doors consisted mostly of white men in their 50s and older, according to The Washington Post.

One man told the paper’s reporter that: “People see it as a glass of wine kind of thing, at least in Montreal.”

He added that his wife had used sometimes dubious black-market cannabis for her fibromyalgia pain, and they were both happy that from now on they could depend on the quality of the weed.

While most had expected at least a 50 per cent increase over street prices, in Quebec it was selling for below black-market prices.

Would you buy marijuana if it became legal in Australia?

Ha Ha this is really not funny but I have to laugh at the stupidity of life today.

Here they are legalizing what is or was once so very awful!!!!

Meanwhile they have demonized the pain relief we all had for years without any harm if taken correctly.

And therein lies the tale of today's mad lot in power or able to do this to us. And dont be fooled its both or all of the parties in government who have allowed this.

Can get no more than 2 codeine pills a day from a GP.

Or so mine told me when I went for usual script back in March.

I am still getting 4 plain Codiene 30mg tabs but not enough, as was for night time.

Whilst daytime was 8 Panadeine Forte which kept me walking pain bearable not free. Loss of these are what is making me cranky to live with.

All because a few misuse these legal drugs.

So they punish everyone for the few who do.

Isnt that typical of today?

So yes I may well give this a try if and when legal and I can get it.

you have to go every day to the GP for 2 codeine pills?

Warrior this is what terrifies me -- Drs. are SO willing to give you all these opioids -- -of which have a dreadful effect --- and so I do not take them -- but they won't try and see what the Medical cannabis will help -- and down the track they will then maybe take the opiates off the market as they have for codeine-- then what the hell do people do that are taking them for the right thing -- just because some fools used them the wrong way.

I have always said give me a Dr. that has suffered --- they have much more understanding --

When will Aistralia make pot legal

we are so behind the times

Discussing it right now AFAIK.

Medical cannibus that is.......seems it is a great help for those suffering cancer.

I meant for recreation

Id move to Canada but it’s too cold

@Micha  If you want any codeine etc pain pills only way is to go and get a script.

Now that costs health budget dearly - but I have asked my GP and chemist how is it going etc. Many getting scripts? - answer from both was no.

Chemist said selling more Ibuprohen now instead.

Now that has some nasty side effects if you look them up including more likely to get a stroke or heart attack as derivative of Aspirin.

Maybe they are trying to "cull" the elderly who do get aches and pains more ......and whom are worse hit on this as used to see many collecting their 240 or 12 boxes of Panadeine Forte at the chemist each month.

What got me was the speel by th Doctor in charge of PBS when I looked it up last March - he said Codeine didnt help stop pain.

A lot of folk would argue with that!

Thanks for that info Warrior. I don't take painkillers myself, I seem to be immune to physical pain. It's the mental pain I get from having to deal with stupid people that bothers me.

Don't think so Olga, but am a bit concerned about it taking over from the reading circles around Oz!

I would take it only IF it helped my pain and without makiing me   "high" -- -- I am not interested in taking it for any other reason-- nor am I interested in    "getting high"    I like to be in control and I am not interested in anything that alters my thinking or mind

Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, is the psychoactive compound in marijuana — i.e. the element that produces the "high." It is missing in medical marijuana. A lot of medical people still need a great deal more convincing that medical marijuana works in any great measure.

It seems as soon as medical canabis  is made available everyone needs it, I worked as a volunteer for 5 years after I retired, I mostly worked with people that had suffered major trauma, usually associated with head trauma and cancer sufferers, many of them were young children, it breaks your heart to see people suffering especially children, medical canabis is proven to help many of these sufferers, they main issue as I eluded to earlier is that as soon as this treatment is made available, it seems as though everyone needs it, and that is part of the reason for reluctance on the part of government to legalise canabis, there needs to be a system in place to stop the misuse and the doctor shopping from the people who are not genuine, NSW is trialling the use of medical canabis, let’s hope it goes well

Olivia Newton John is an avid user of cannabis oil to relieve cancer pain..her husband grows the stuff and she even helped purchase a cannabis farm in Oregon for her daughter and partner..

I would certainly try the oil to relieve severe pain if it was approved here in Australia..

To answer a question from another page(why Canada seems to have few problems with thier Politicians)maybe their all on dope!!!

Yes, should be legalized for sure, would free up the police for more serious crimes, would stop the blackmarket selling of it, would stop the hydroponic growers stealing electricity and using suburban houses to grow, I could go on. It is only a plant and has been used for eternity, the hydro stuff is really bad because it is fed with chemicals. People should be allowed to grow their own. Medical cannibis is okay but it will mean the pharmeucital companies will jump on it and take control and it will become part of the health system instead of people being able to treat themselves naturally. You don't have to smoke it or inhale, you can cook it, make oils and more. The industry is huge in some USA states. I would rather people be able to take a natural substance to make them relaxed and ease their pain rather than of all that horrid ice that makes people agressive.
