Recycling tip: what do you do with 'scrunchable' plastics?

Did you know you can now recycle soft or 'scrunchable' plastics at the supermarket? You may already realise that many plastics can't be recycled in the ordinary kerbside recycling:

  • Bread bags
  • Biscuit packets
  • Frozen food bags
  • Rice and pasta Bags
  • Confectionery packets
  • Newspaper wrap
  • Cling wrap
  • Plastic shopping bags
  • Old green bags

Unfortunately, all too often these plastics end up in landfill!

The good news is you can now recycle scrunchable plastics by taking them to Coles and dropping them in designated bins. They will be taken to a special recycling plant and turned into kids’ playground equipment and outdoor furniture.

How cool is that?

Find your nearest participating Coles store.

Thanks for the info Amelia :)

Did not know about the 'scrunchable' bags ... only about the supermarket shopping bags

Our council give us special bags to put meat bones in the green waste and we can also put shredded paper in the green waste as well.

All this is sold to a composting company.

I am not sure if plastic playground equipment is safe for children. The substance releases toxic emissions into the environment no matter what. The most caring thing to do is not buy plastic products at all.
