remove ninemsn as default browser

Hi all,

I had set Firefox as my default browser and have been very happy with it.

Recently I installed a webcam and due to a small hiccup with the normal windows messenger, I was directed to install a quite large stand alone program (134MB) of windows live.

The webcam worked well to Indonesia where my son is so I was quite happy with it. Except that it has now taken over as my default browser (as ninemsn). It is extremely intrusive and I hate it.

Now no matter what I do I cannot remove it (or ninemsn) as a default browser. I assume that they are the same?

I have uninstalled Windows live, gone to the Firefox web page and installed it as default, reset the default programs through the start page and even tried to uninstall Internet explorer. All to no avail. I have even deleted all references to it in the programs section of the Hard drive.

How can I get this Monster off my computer.

Cheers, devowlish

Can't help there sorry. Hopefully someone else can. Computers are wonderful till something goes wrong!

Actually you cannot uninstall Internet Explorer but of you have IE7 you can roll back to Internet Explorer 6.

Then only keep it for those links which you cannot escape as they link to it only.

If you have downloaded IE8 - you can get rid of that but if it wont go on Control/programs - then I have a feeling I saw on a tech site that M$ have a tool to get rid of it for you and roll you back probably to IE6.

IE6 is permanent and they still update it.

Did you know you can get a IE tab on your Firefox 3?

Many overseas newspapers do not come up right on FF so if you get the tab it has an options where you can put in the url for the papers and it will bring them up on its IE tab. Quick way click on newspaper on FF and then go to tools and click on IE tab and it will take the url off the curent tab for you - lovely :)

As for your webcam problem - whoever makes it has usually a forum for questions that help. Dont use one myself so cant help there.

This site is helpful (and polite too) for tech questions

http://forums.windowsforum.org/

That's a handy looking site, BigVal...have b'marked it for future reference.

Another one that gives good support is

http://helpdesk.getmega.com/

but the Windows one looks far more comprehensive.

Thanks.
