restart of football codes

The NRL seem to be on the road of starting up their season again, no matter what the cost is. I just hope that the green light for them to restart again comes from the Health Deptartments and the Federal and State Governments.

Inderpendent health experts are all well and good, but the Australian community as a whole are all under restrictions and I would hope football codes come under the same rules and are not given some stupid loophole to allow them a different rule.

A case of greed and sanctimonious attitude. A sport where profits are put before safety.

Spot on its all about the almighty dollar.

self indulgent wankers

Well from what I have seen these dimwits -- with their IQ number stamped on their backs -- are up close and personal knocking each other about -- get paid a HEAP -- then go out and mix/drink heaps/and force themselves on others /get into fights -- so I do not think it is a good idea to allow this to take place -- as we can not trust these fools

Exactly right PlanB....This code has nothing but behaviour issues every season, you just could not trust the players in this code to behave once their back playing again....In saying that the head honcos of the ARL and the NRL are worried more about their TV rights than anything else....I hope commonsense from the Health Depts and the Federal and State Govts show some guts and put it straight to the likes of Peter Vlandys when we give the green light that it's safe to resume, don't go presuming anything.

PlanB - couldn't agree with you more. Let these sportsmen learn they are just like everyone else and cop it sweet by not playing football. Other people have lost their jobs and have bills to pay, why should they be given special treatment?

Unfortunately the game lost its way many years ago with respect to administration and stretigic direction.

If they want to again be " Simply The Best".... go back and review those times ,analyise what worked and why then learn from that experience.

That way they may also  attract a sponsor who will support the game as they did in those days..critical to long term success.....Can live in hope .

Just read a post from Covid19 that I would like to share.  In one week, we've seen how healthcare workers, truck drivers and grocery shop employees are much more important than football players, actors and the supposedly famous.

I like football, but there are far more important issues facing society at the moment.  The world has been turned upside down, and people are facing financial ruin & these boneheads seem to think the world revolves around them.
They'll simply have to ride this out like everyone else.  Other better known world wide sports & the olympics etc have copped it on the chin.     Nobody's heard of rugby league outside of Sydney & brisbane .

If they  weren't playing football they'd be on a pick & shovel, so suck it up like everyone else.

Quite right, Keith.  For a game that is mainly played in only two eastern states of Australia, two counties in UK (by players who can't make it as footballers) and New Zealand (by players who can't make it into the All Blacks), the supporters are carrying on as if the whole country is crying out for a Rugby League restart, regardless of the possible consequences.  What really amazes me is the the head of police in NSW is supporting the proposed restart, while his front-line officers are, every day, putting their health and possibly their lives on the line issuing fines to groups and individuals who fail to practice safe social-distancing.

Let them announce a date BUT they have to follow commmunity rules and that includes social distancing, etc

Rugby League (not NRL) used to be a significant part of my life.  Today?  Nah, that's not Rugby League.

Hate to be unkind but I feel it needs to be said.  Apologise in advance if I offend you.

But if the current crop of NRL player (not all, but unfortunately a significant majority) and administrators want to commit suicide by playing a contact sport whilst Covid-19 ravages the world, then we have a chance of increasing the average intelligence of players and administrators in the future. So, going forward the game can be taken back to the "real" Rugby League that once mesmerised so many.  Happy to bury the NRL and see the rise of the RealRL.

Most sports events have  been cancelled or at least postponed until further notice.

NRL should do the same. If they insist on start playing again the club should be heavily fined. If it happens in SA there will be a fine of $1000.00 per person. I don't think any club can afford that

Your right Blossom, social distancing a the moment carry heavy fines all over Australia, the likes of V'landys head honco of the ARL commission keep saying it's only a likely date may/28 to resume,i would say this bloke V'landys would do anything to start on this supposed date,he has no concern other than to see this code back on tv,so money from tv rights start flowing again. This V'landys is same bloke that appeared on the ABC 7.30 report about the house of horrors slaughtering of horses in QLD,a lot of the answers he gave that night tell you what kind of a bloke he is....not worth a pinch of salt.

If they are allowed to restart on their "target" date is anyone game to wager how long before one of the players catches Covid_19 and dies? Boys, this is more infectious than a cold and deadlier too. Money is one thing, your life another.

Maybe we should let them all play, all catch covid and wipes out the problem

The problem with just letting them get on with it is when, not if one of them ends up in intensive care they will be taking resources away from someone who has probably done everything they could to avoid catching this virus.

If they play, people will want to watch and some of those people will end up watching in groups, this will surely give us a spike in new infection rates.

What puts NRL above all the rest who have taken the virus seriously and done the right thing for the country not to mentiion welfare of players , staff etc.  Should not be allowed to go ahead.

It is not unreasonable to be optimistic, I am optimistic that sooner or later this virus will be controlled or even eliminated, but I would not put a bdate on it, it is sometime in the future, maybe several months away or even a year or more. I can see some non-contact sports like tennis, golf, swimming, archery, some field athletics, clay shooting etc being allowed to start earlier (without spectators) than contact sports like NRL, AFL, FFA, hockey, basketball etc. The end of May is just too optimistic to be realistic.

Yes, we need to apply that almost mythical skill that is often refered to as common sense.

Target shooting can be easily controled by roping off every second position on the shooting mound, something that we did weeks before we had to close down.

We did close our club, we didn't like it, but we all complied.  We all understood that we had to look at the big picture. Sport is not more important than peoples lives.

I used to enjoy watching football, all codes, but the increasingly self-indulgent attitudes and off-field scandals, money-grubbing deals and sports betting ads have totally put me off.

Just don't watch it any more and couldn't care less if it never returned in its current form.

Yes, I agree, big money has spoilt a lot of good sports.  It has transformed healthy competition into nothing more than a commercial enterprise.
