Retailers reveal best-selling Christmas gifts

Online retailers are experiencing a huge Christmas shopping surge, to the point where they’re warning shoppers to buy now for Christmas or risk missing out.

Unsurprisingly, coronavirus has led to an increase of online shopping activity around the country, says a Perth Now article.

“It’s forced many people, particularly older Australians, to try shopping online for the first time — and it will continue long after the coronavirus is over,” said AlphaBeta director Andrew Charlton.

While some research suggests that around 52 per cent of consumers were concerned about their safety while shopping in stores, it’s not stopping the other 48 per cent from hitting online stores now.

And between now and Christmas, sales such as Black Friday (November 27) and Cyber Monday (November 30) will have them flocking in digital droves.

SO, what are you likely to miss out on if you don’t get in now?

According to Catch.com.au chief marketing officer Ryan Gracie, tech gifts are the most popular items on 2020 Christmas lists.

“Some of our bestsellers include smart home products, televisions and gaming consoles like Nintendo Switch,” he said.

“We’re also expecting drones to be a bestseller as Aussies look forward to exploring the great outdoors.”

Have you started your Christmas shopping? Are you likely to do the bulk of your shopping online, or will you hold out hope that bricks and mortar stores reopen soon?

Not started shopping yet but I do like to see what I buy as a gift

... some of the online stuff is shonky

... if I get stumped I will send Bunning vouchers.

You are right about some online stuff being shonky.
Hubby went crazy after his first successful purchase but five of the next seven were so inferior. I bought a "fitness band" for $12 which is excellent, and also some sewing machine feet which are not good quality but do the job. I guess its trial and error.

The trouble is with the cost. The difference between a box of chocolates, a book or a gaming console is a couple of hundred dollars. No more giving in the spirit of Christmas. Too much greed. I have told evveryone I am not buying presents this year, they all have my Best Wishes xxxx

Where are you buying your chocolates Veritas at $200?

I haven't celebrated Christmas for years because of the pressures and so on involved. If I want to give someone a present I give it to them and it means a lot more to that person!  I've never given someone a present and experinced diappointment because they were disappointed, instead they are thrilled and surprised! I think that Christmas will be very lean for some people and maybe many may experince their first Christmas with very few gifts. Pushing people to go into debt for this one day seems absolutley bizare to me.

I am with you 100% Ted,  I have not celebrated Xmax for many decades since my son was a child, I treat people the same every day, not just a few -- it really is just a money-making racket and people buying gifts for people they really don't care a hoot about a lot of the time

I absolutely love Christmas and celebrating it with my family ... delicious food, shonky gifts to laugh over, glitzy trees, lights extravaganzas and wrapping presents ... the whole shebang.
