Rosacea

Just been to the dermatologist.  Had a rash like this one on my cheek

It's Rosacea, caused by the sun, it affects the central face and looks a bit like acne.  She zapped me with liquid nitrogen.  Glad I checked it out because looking at Dr Google's images of rosacea on some  young women is horrific.  Initially blamed the dog and thought it might be a ring worm, so now she's off the hook. lol

I told me eldest daughter to be careful because they spend a lot of time on the water in their boat every weekend.  I'm a good one to talk, I've never used sunscreen in my life, but didn't tell the doctor. lol

My GP thought it was a ringworm and suggested I use over the counter cream for athlete's foot.  I put it on for two days and knew it wasn't doing the job.  Just gives you an idea of how clueless some GPs can be.

I know how you feel and mean Toot I must have been about 29 when I started having irritations on my hands, went to a Dermatologist and he said it was a type of Ringworm and to use a certain cream.  A year later and nothing had changed!  Was advised by my mothers friend [a doctor] to see a specialist in Nedlands who said it was vitiligo skin.    So much for for specialists.  It is an auto immune issue, one of many I have these days.

This is why I go to a dermatologist annually for checkups.

Yes Celica, it is frustrating when your GP isn't up to speed on these things, but was very glad she recommended a Dermotologist to find out for sure.

Hi Toot!

The GP didn't know it was the Dermotolgist that I saw first off that was wrong!

My second Dermotologist was correct that is why I was so indignant with him!

Did the zap with liquid nitrogen work ?? Or is it too soon to tell ??

Hi Suze, only went today so too early to tell.  It started about 2 months ago with a tiny blemish on the cheek, glad I did, look at this poor girl.

Stay away from Dr Google, I had a Paper cuts: small but mighty! - Collection Care blogpaper cut and when I checked with Dr Google, he informed me that I had 24 hours to live.

Some A4 pages can inject venom when the get angry! Beware, if your fingers start hitting the wrong keys on your keyboard its a sure sign of imminent demise!

Forgot to mention that the Dermo told me it's very common in people who are fair-skinned and if you have Celtic or Scandinavian ancestors (Irish/Scottish). Women are also more likely to develop the condition than men. However, men who develop the condition often have more severe symptoms.  It only affects the face.

I have a friend who suffers from Rosacea when she goes out into the sun

She keeps it under control with green tea

A regular cup of green tea is placed in the fridge and when cold, applies it with cotton make up pads

Green tea has  anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce redness and inflammation on the skin.

That is interesting Suze, also it can be a sign that your liver is not working properly or you are too acidic, or have a toxic build up.

Thanks for that Incognito

I'll let her know
