SA Government announce privatisation of trains and trams
Transport Minister Stephan Knoll announced today tha tthe South Australian Liberal government will soon release tenders to privatise Adelaide's trains and trams network.
"We know that public transport patronage growth has stalled, and customers want a better level of service than is currently provided - and the Marshall Government agrees with our customers," Mr Knoll said.
The government will guarantee service frequency and standards are maintained once the tenders go through.
What do you think? Is privatising the transport network a good idea?
When the Gov announced that the CBA would be privatised, it siad it would be more efficient and provide better service. In fact the CBA closed all the small branches and reduced staff. When questioned, the CEO said his ONLY responsibilities were to the shareholders. When NSW started to privitise jails, again we were told that they would be run more efficiently, but Junee jail had only handpicked docile prisoners sent there, most of the costs were absorbed by other jails, especially Bathurst Jail, and as for providing local staffing, the top management were from overseas, on high wages, lower ranks were on very low wages, and all the profits went overseas. Junee jail was a joke and a drain on taxpayer money. Why privatisation?
Well as the chancellor of Charles Sturt University explained to me when he privatised their maintenance and staffing workforce, which caused a number of staff losses, and those left on lower wages, a direct blow to Bathurst. He only spends 30 seconds writing out a cheque, before he spent hours working out sick pay, rosters, holiday pay, workers compensation etc etc, now the Labour Hire company does it, and it expects to make a profit at the expemse of the workforce.
Simoliarly our Gov is lying when it says it will be more efficient, and will provide better service. NO.
The Gov just doesnt want to do the work.
