Sarah Hanson Young
I have not seen any mention on here of the latest jaunt of Sarah Hanson-Young where she and her daughter went on a whale watching 3 day trip courtesy of the taxpayer.
Hanson Young is quick to condemn others but needs to take a good hard look in the mirror...it does not wash out in voter land..just as it did not wash when Bronwyn Bishop did the wrong thing.
"Greens senator Sarah Hanson-Young has hit out at criticism from “grumpy old white men” amid a backlash over her almost $4000 taxpayer-funded whale-watching trip with her daughter.
The South Australian senator, who wants a ban on oil and gas exploration in waters off South Australia’s far west coast, today attacked critics she claimed were lecturing her about being a single mum.
This follows widespread anger from voters and other senators after The Australianon Monday revealed she and her daughter took an overnight trip to the Great Australian Bight last September to “see the whales” at a cost to taxpayers of $3874.23.
Today she defiantly declared she had no regrets about the trip and had no choice but to take her 11-year-old daughter, who she said was “sick” at the time.
“Of course I don’t regret it. There have been some grumpy old white men deciding what is best for my family in the last 24 hours, and I tell you what, I am not going to be lectured to by some grumpy old men about how to be a mother or indeed what is best for my family,” Senator Hanson-Young told Sky News.
“Of course this trip was official, it was all work related ... I was there to do my job as a senator and, within the rules, I took my daughter along because as any parent knows, when your kid is not feeling well, sometimes when they are that fragile, the last thing you want to do is put more angst on them by mum not being at home, particularly if you’re away at night.”
She claimed “mis-facts in the paper” but ignored repeated requests to specify these.
Senator Hanson-Young conceded on Sky News that she was “pretty lucky” and in a “privileged position” as a single working mother to be “able to balance things often probably better than other people do with a lot more support”.
“Most of the time I get it right. Sometimes, those scales swing one way or the other, and you’ve got to make the decision in the best interests of your family at the time,” she said.
The senator said there was “a lot of lip service paid to the idea that parliament is becoming more family friendly” but if this was the case, then entitlements allowing for family travel must stay in place, she said.
Cory Bernardi, a South Australian senator who leads the Australian Conservatives, accused Senator Hanson-Young of being “out of touch” with voters for taking the trip.
Adelaide talkback radio host Mike Smithson also had a fiery on-air exchange with Senator Hanson-Young, telling her the explanation for taking her ill daughter on the trip “doesn’t wash with me”.
“I saw that Senator Bernardi is out having a whack at me — I think it’s a bit rich. Let’s not forget Senator Bernardi spent $76,000 of taxpayer money last year swanning around the US following (Donald) Trump like a sick puppy,” she told Sky, in reference to Senator Bernardi’s three-month secondment to represent Australia at the UN in New York last year.
Senator Hanson-Young, for a second day, refused to reveal when almost $1000 of airfares for her daughter were booked."
A parasite and complete disgrace..
