Selling second hand goods

Well as far as I am concerned garage sales are a waste of time...had one and only one person turned up LOL....27 were on the same morning...

Not to be deterred I have now been putting what I think will sell up on Gumtree and so far have done very well...not everything has sold but that is ok.  Also my prices have been very, very fair I think.

If anyone is thinking of using this way of selling goods I can recommend it .  This is not a paid advert for Gumtree...just me telling anyone who is thinking of using this medium to sell unwanted goods.

Just be wary of who you let into your home...but touch wood we have been ok...everyone very nice (and no fake $50 notes) lol.

You can also sell or gift items on NABO if you have it set up in your area

Radish if you had put your garage sale on this Forum

...we would all have come Related image

LOL Suze...I did put on Nabo  but no luck...Gumtree has been the best result so far.

my daughter sold a lot on gumtree when she moved houses,  said they were very good,   and managed to sell everything,    RADISH,   i keep saying i will have a garage sale,   but the thought of getting everything out,  sorting it,  pricing it,    it all sounds like to much effort,   so i am stuck here surrounded,      and keep buying more,  lol,

Radish - When I was moving house a few years ago, most of my furniture was 40 years old. So I put a sign out the front of the house saying "Free Furniture - take your pick". It all went within 2 hours. I was going to have a Garage Sale but couldn't bare the thought of people trying to beat me down on the price.

I totally understand where you both are coming from.   Think we will just keep advertising on G/Tree and when we get down to what I call the "crap" that will be going into a skip or to the local Op shop.

So far we have made just over $1K...will go towards two new recliners.

Sounds like a good return Radish

but why does your avatar look so angry Related image

Hey Suze that is supposed to be a "cool" look...do you think it is angry looking??

I have put up a Joker one now :)

That is the first impression I got of it

...but sure looked better than the male shadow that is being used by the spammers.

Just seen it ..doing an edit Related image love the joker

I had a garage sale with friends that were moving house and most things were NEW and if not were in excelent condition -- but everyone wanted them for nothing and it was a waste of time may as well have given them away to the Op shop for the trouble we went to.

I have bought a few things off Gum Tree and found them to be great -- and cheap

As for selling stuff, G/tree is certainly good, but I found the local buy/sell sites on Facebook are much better and more responsive. There I have sold items sometimes within minutes. NABO I found was a waste of effort, but I like the idea of NABO if it only would work.

Bought and sold a lot on Gumtree, never had any problems.

I have sold a caravan on Gumtree but I have to admit I am a slight bit sceptical of selling other household goods. I would like to downsize everything in our wardrobes & cupboards. I am pleased that others are more trusting, I will be more motivated after the comments on Gumtree selling. The Nabo is a no no for us. Thanks to all the comments.

Islamic State targets Gumtree and eBay users in kill plot

"Islamic State has issued a chilling call to its followers to use online classified websites such as Gumtree and Ebay to lure unsuspecting people to their deaths.

The latest issue of the extremist group’s English language propaganda magazine Rumiyah suggests several ways IS followers can take as many people as possible hostage and slaughter them.

It suggests posting fake ads for items for sale on Gumtree and Ebay to trick people into meeting them at a certain location so they can pay and collect the items, which IS suggests should be large and/or expensive.

“Online sales by way of buy and sell websites such as Craigslist, Gumtree, eBay, the Loot, and others are an alternative means to luring one’s victims,” an article titled Just Terror Tactics suggests.

“The viewing and collecting of the item should be arranged to be at the location where one seeks to carry out his operation. Upon the target’s arrival, one can then proceed to initiate his attack.”

Gumtree is urging users of its online classifieds to report anything suspicious."

No way I am going anywhere to meet anyone to sell something....not that darn silly...even if I am over 70!!

... no - you not "going anywhere" but - you still letting these "strangers" come to your house??? You said so earlier????

Not a thing I would do!   Ebay is best ................

Gumtree (according to my friends - does have good results) but - people say they coming - don't turn up - come with friends to bargain and can be real "pains" ..... - nah.....   not for me!

To each his/her own!   :-)

i use EBAY all the time,   but just to buy MORE,    cant help myself when i see all that music going cheap,    i LOVE ebay,

Gumtree/Owner is  Image result for who owns gumtree

In May 2005, Gumtree was acquired by eBay's classifieds group, for an undisclosed sum. At the time of the acquisition, Gumtree already was available in multiple cities in a number of countries including the United Kingdom, Poland, France, Canada, Australia (Gumtree Australia), New Zealand, South Africa and Hong Kong.

The trick is to get YOU to go to a "certain location" of THEIR choosing.  Nothing about going to peoples' homes.

I have no problem with people coming to my home (the house is locked and they only come to the patio area or shed) which is the norm with everyone who has something for sale and I do not have large or expensive items.

Can honestly say everyone who has come to buy has been very pleasant.

Everyone is different and I am quite relaxed about the way I do things.
