Sending a bill to the Government

After getting the NBN on, the cost of the Modem plus the cost of a new phone -- because the old Telstra phone will NOT work with the NBN -- and surge, protectors, because the phone has to be plugged into the Elect as well as the modem -- which was an all up cost of $270, I am sending them a bill.

Everyone should do the same.

PlanB my NBN gave me a modem. Your existing phone should work and a surge protector is nice but not essential.

Surely you would have had a surge protector on your old modem if you considered power spikes and brown outs to be a concern.

What you won't have anymore is an analogue phone line. The old phone will work but its through the internet. So if the internet is down or you have a power outage then you no longer have a landline.

You also no longer have the same level of banking security that you had on the analogue line for phone banking so make sure your modem and computer are well password protected.

Rosret, our existing Telstra phone won't work with the NBN. They sent a replacement phone which works through the modem. We already had three Uniden handsets for convenience and, thankfully, these are compatible with the NBN. So, in a sense our existing phones did work but they aren't Telstra phones.

I never go on a plan so I have to buy the modem -- cheaper to do that than have to pay to get out of a plan if the server ends up no good -- I never had the surge protectors on b4 -- and thats why I have to buy another cordless phone as the last storm fried it -- so bought surge protectors for the fridge ect as  well as the phone and internet.

BTW I do no expect to get any refund from the Government -- BUT it will let them know the cost of this NBN

And you think the Government cares?

They already know the costs.  They've always known.d

Writing to the NBN Authority is not the same as writing to the "Government".  They don't forward your correspondence on to Malcolm or Tony or whoever you expect to want to read your missive.

Even if you wrote to Malcolm's office, he still won't see it.  He is the Prime Minister, not the Correspondence secretary.

So stop tilting at windmills, and move on.  We are all suffering from this complete and utter disaster, so join the club, and get on with more important things in your life.

NBN does not give you a modem, it is the ISP that provides the modem, free or paid, depending on the plan you choose from them.

No point sending anything to NBN, it is not their problem.  Talk to your ISP and sort it out with them.

Yes, johninmelb, people seem to be confused and a big part of that is politicians telling us that the other side is responsible for the "NBN disaster". The NBN is a wholesale group which sells to the retailers who, in turn, sell to us. If we have a problem we need to get back to our ISP who should be able to sort it out.

Yes, sorry johninmelb, I should have double checked what I wrote.

What is NBN?

Quick read of the paper will tell you.  And, as always, Google is your friend.

NBN is a whole lot of trouble. So delay as long as you can. Eventually they will be shutting down your ASDL copper wires so you will have to change over.

If you phone your internet provider they will help you. (Telstra, TPG etc)

Yes I wait till the last minute to get the NBN on -- it is a mess with all the wires hanging about and having to have the phone and the modem in the same area -- and having to buy a new phone as well if you only had the old Telstra phone

:) Greg. Sad but true for quite a few.

Certainly true for some of us!
