Set Top Box Query
About Seniors subscriber Ann has a query regarding Set Top Box's.
Can anybody help?
My daughter went to buy me an HD set top box for my birthday and was told by the salesperson that once it had been installed, I would no longer be able to record videos on my existing video recorder. In my lounge I have a video recorder and a DVD player. While in my bedroom I have a compo. I video a lot of programmes often on both machines at once while I watch a programme. The salesperson tried to sell my daughter a Tivo, but of course that was too expense. Some of my friends said that they did not think that was correct and that if you get a HD set top box you can still use your old video recorder. Please can you give me a correct answer?
Thanks - Ann
You would be OK for a while, but analogue TV will be phased out over the next few years. The only way then will be to have a high definition recorder, and I don't think they'll be making them as video machines, only disks or ones with hard drive memory. At the moment you could probably use a splitter on the aerial to connect both the set top box and the video recorder.
