Swedish chefs on the hop trying to serve ballsy delicacies Down Under

Flat-pack furniture king IKEA is hoping to have customers jumping up and down for its latest offering – kangaroo meatballs.

Unlike the backlash that engulfed the chain in Europe years ago, where it was sprung substituting beef with horse meat, IKEA is hopeful its Down Under offer will have hungry shoppers bounding in to its Democratic Design Days Australia exhibit.

The three-day design festival at Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art from 27 to 29 August will showcase IKEA’s “Aussie first” program.

The event is free for those who book and samples of the exclusive roo balls will be available from 11am to 1pm each day of the festival.

I've never eaten kangaroo, so will be giving those a miss. Have enjoyed many great lunches at IKEA in Perth including their vegetarian meatballs made out of kale, corn, red peppers, carrots, chickpeas, peas, and pea protein. Yummy.

I've seen Kangaroo being sold in Woollies but I don't fancy trying it. My son had some in a restaurant in Melbourne and said it was very tender. I would keep seeing Skippy's face and I couldn't face trying it.

I would not be eating it either

I am not a big meat eater at the best of times -- the only meat I can come at is some good lean grass fed mince made into a good hamburger, I never eat steak -- although I always keep some scotch fillet in the Freezer in case a visitor may like one

Whats wrong with kangaroo meat?. Indigenees have been eating it for over 60000 years(if figures are correct) and there are still lots a kangaroos around.

Probably better to use a local resource then bringing in cattle etc who can damage the enviroment.

I have tried roo meat  and does take getting used to the difference, but its ok. Remember , up in northern Europe they eat horse and reindeer without any worry.

Koala balls would be yummier.

Kangaroo meat is good I have eaten it many times but I woud not eat it if I did not kill it myself.

You kill it the halal way then?

No just a bullet or an arrow.

I have seen video of pro shooters hanging the roos on utes covered in flies so i will not buy it or eat it from stores.

would never be on my plate,   though my son eats it,   and said its ok,    daughter tried it,  but didnt like it,     BUT if the kangaroos that are in plague proportions were killed humanly,   could go a long way to feeding the poor,

The Aisans eat cats and dogs.

You will never see a stray animal in Springvale Victoria.
