Tax grab

Hi I've just been confronted by Centrelink who have gone back TEN years and discovered that I over and UNDER esatimated my earnings when I was doing casual work whist on DSP. I'm now on an aged pension, 3 years, and of course living in poverty, I'm renting and they want to recoup their pultry, for them, $200. I guessed my casual wage to the best of my ability as I had to tell Centrelink my guestiment half way through my casual work fortnight. If they had done their job and told me my underestimate when I was earning a paltry amount to survive I could and most happily paid them their money, but now I'm living beyond poverty and $200 is way beyond my means BUT THEY want their money. I don't think it's fair and is there anything I can do about it? I have agreed to repay $10 a fortnight but as anyone on a pension paying rent would know that's nealy half a weeks food money.

  Cheers, Doug S

Apparently this is happening to lots of people, not just pensioners, it's all done thru' computers and can be successfully appealed as the info that was entered doesn't allow for human error or individual's circumstances at the time of the 'alleged' offence,... an acquaintance of mine is paying back over $2000 from 8 years ago ( she did lie to them) from her newstart .... they treat ev'ryone the same, guilty or not.

I would appeal if I were you, good luck anyway
