Telstra NBN routers not had firmware updated - open to hackers
Big shock Firday Avast did a check on my computer for bad apps and leaks etc and came back with Router.
Its wide open to hackers they said.
So I started off with checjking with Manufacturer - Sagemcom and its wasnt on their modle list so emailded them asking if they do the updates of firmware and they came back really fast saying NO they sold these to Telstra and part of the contract condiditions are that Telstra do firmware upodates. OK? Telstra have several different styles of Routers. Only checked Sagemcom. Several models from them in use and on Cummunity forum found others being told same and also trying to get this fixed.
Yesterday went to chat as nothing found on website and troublkshooter.
I had already done factory reset - turned it off for 10 secs and it has to be then have security key and password to re- connect etc.
Got onto chat - 1 whole hour os explaining - started off on business as that was first but using home computer not my business which isnt on Telstrra NBN anyway. They asked for account and then said personal and transferred me to what turned out to be ADSL who said will give yu nerw security kay and I said NO. Wont fix the problem - I thought I waited whilst you read what I had told business man - who incidently had western surname - fm then on all were Asian so English not first language which as we all know can be a problem
3rd lot were techs and their solution was for me to give them my fullname and date of birt using a router which is open to my evry keystroke being hacked riight! and yet this was what was suggested as final lodging of a compliant. No how to solve it.
Now went back to Communiity forum and Telstra told me to turn off my router tonight and it would be updated as done between midnight and 3am automatically.
DUH my router hasnt been off since installed until I reset it recently which is solution to get firmware updated.
Next? Who knows.
Any solutions welcome.
BUT if you have same router - be aware check it out - get AVAST Free Antivirus - most free dont do what Avast do for free.
Now off to play with the reCAptcha ha ha
Update; Firmware is now all updated.
