The four horsemen of the Liberal apocalypse?

I'm going to keep this one short, sharp and to the point.

We have four potential leaders of the Liberal Party up for 'election'.

POLL CLOSED – RESULTS WILL BE RELEASED ON MONDAY – IN THE MEANTIME, FEEL FREE TO ADD YOUR COMMENTS BELOW

Or is there someone else you'd rather see sitting on the 'throne'?

One has to admire the work and sacrifice of Peter Dutton in getting rid of Malcolm Turnbull. Lets face it, the LNP was never going to survive the continual conflict over policy direction. Peter Dutton challenged the LNP to fix itself.

They will not get better until they excise the cancerous growth that is growing within there failing body.

The four horsemen of the Liberal apocalypse?

Right now it's looking like the 4 asses IMO.

But then again, I wouldn't want to insult asses.

Don't think they would bite the hand that feeds them so spitefully.

Time to introduce a new rule, you change the leader that you went to an election with, you call an election within one month.

Although you do not vote for the PM unless you are in their electorate, you still take that persons character into consideration when you put a Party in power.  How dare the backroom power brokers change that leader to suit their own agendas.

I agree with you exPS

Good idea exPS.

Another thing that our elected representatives do that gets my goat is switch parties after they're elected.  I understand that frictions arise within parties, but surely most people who vote along party lines do so because they like a particular party, the choice of candidate is more than likely secondary unless of course, you happen to know that candidate personally.

Good idea exPS, and agree many voters choose along party lines Leonie.

Personally I would like to see no changes (both PMs and party skipping) between elections. Obviously, in the unfortunate circumstance of either incapacitation or death, a replacement would need to be found. In which case I think the deputy PM should step up or the next highest vote winner in the case of an MP. Hopefully that would bring a little more stability to our parliament.

Great idea ex PS. I’m all for it.

I would be interested to know how many votes Julie Bishop got. Can’t find it on google. Anyone know?

The leadership election was contested by Treasurer Scott Morrison, Foreign Minister and Deputy Leader Julie Bishop and outgoing Minister for Home Affairs Peter Dutton. Bishop was eliminated in the first round with 11 votes (11/85 or 12.9 percent), while Morrison received 36 votes and Dutton 38 votes. The second round between Dutton and Morrison resulted in a victory for Morrison, 45 votes to 40, becoming the party leader and subsequently prime minister.

Deputy Leader Julie Bishop did not contest the deputy leadership election, which occurred after the leadership election. Minister for the Environment and Energy Josh Frydenberg won a majority in the first round with 46 votes, while Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment Steven Ciobo received 20 and Minister for Health Greg Hunt received 16.

Thanks RnR, I since found out she got 11 votes and tried to post but it wouldn’t send. Found this in the SMH also of interest:

“One Liberal figure said the Foreign Minister had been "treated like sh-t" by conservatives and many moderates.”

She may resign.

Well, she's had a long and illustrious career, maybe it's time.  I could never warm to her.  Can't get over the fact that she defended Hardie's in 'that' asbestos case.

The fact that I grew up a stone's throw from an asbestos factory probably affects my judgement on that score.  That and the fact that an inordinate number of my neighbourhood contemporaries are no longer with us.

So many young people from the neighbourhood worked in that damn factory.

I could never warm to her either Leonie and also never forgave her for defending Hardies. Remember too that she was not very competent in the ministry she had before the Foreign Affairs portfolio. I would have preferred her as PM though over either Morrison or Dutton because they are both poison in my view. Scott Morrison is like a Peter Dutton with brains, ultra ambition and cunning. The “brains” bit is maybe the only difference between them but possibly he is more cunning too.

Sad fact is she was the best of a bad bunch.

Leonie, my thoughts as well, especially the part where they were delaying the outcome so there would be less compensation to pay. Once you are dead, no compensation.

There's a real buzz of excitement about the Government now. Just talking to a few different people lately and many are more optimistic about the future now.

No doubt the people you would talk to are as conservative as you Adrianus? Has to be so if they, like you, are feeling excited? Conservatives in my view are not at all in touch with the Australia that showed itself to be a compassionate, caring nation in the SSM equality vote. Conservatives did show themselves to be very poor losers though.

Robi -you have no idea how compassionate conservatives are. They are the most generous philanthoripists, donors ,sponsors, contributors, patrons and samaritans. Most have altruistic values , hence they are by nature drawn to conservative values political and social policies

“Most have altruistic values , hence they are by nature drawn to conservative values political and social policies”

What an absolute joke!!!!

”They are the most generous philanthropists, donors, sponsors, contributors, patrons and samaritans.”

Who, when and how much have these magnaminous people donated to public welfare? Facts please otherwise who should believe you? You might also tell me why pollies, especially conservative pollies rip off the public purse.

Google it Robi - too easy

Evevn if I publish it here, looks like you wont believe me

Labor and Greenie pollies and of course union officials have ripped off more per head than any one living or deceased - FACT

Please Olbaid, do publish it here for the benefit of everyone. If you don’t there is no way you will be believed.

You might also shore your last statement up with TRUE facts. Just because you state the word FACT does not mean it is indeed FACT.

The comments you make are really trite and lacking in substance.

So am I, I think they have just guaranteed a change of government.

Don't know why anyone would be more optimistic, nothing has changed that I can see, a few people wearing different hats but other then that, same old same old.

Will be interesting to see what the poll out tonight shows.

What poll?

This one?

Thanks Leonie :). Such pressure now on Morrison to save the Libs from decimation at the next election. Can it be done? I suspect not, in spite of how well he lies and pretends to be a good leader, a good guy. His past stands on asylum seeker incarceration and the secrecy he introduced around it; against same sex marriage; for religious freedoms; voting so many times against a royal commission into banking; tax breaks for big business; support for coal mining and coal based energy; threatening the States with loss of gst if they didn’t support gas fracking; introducing the 6 month wait for the dole in Joe’s horror budget in 2014, etc etc cannot be wiped from his record.

Dead silence from the Liberal supporters, drowning their sorrows maybe.

Ha ha, I’m enjoying the silence!

TIME TO TURN TO THE HARD RIGHT   AS HUNGARY AND OTHER SMART EUROPEAN COUNTRIES DOING.....TURNBOLL AND THE LNP ARE TOO FAR TO THE LEFT IDEOLOGY.

Remember TURNBOLL'S PREFERENCE TO MOSLEM IMMIGRATION AND NOT WHITE ONES....hE WAS THE WORST PM EVER.

That is your opinion Kali-G, a lot of people do not agree with you and the name is Turnbull not Turnboll and that is a ridiculous assertion to make about Immigration, Australia is a NON RACIST NATION, WE DO NOT DISCRIMINTAE BETWEEN RELIGION, COLOUR AND POLITICS.

Australia is a very racist nation from what I have seen but they try to hide it to be seen to be modern and the chic thing to do.

Racist or just racially diverse?
