The way we are viewed
Recently, there has been much discussion as to whether there should be a hospital, reserved just for geriatric patients. The point being that those aged 70+ were regarded as geriatric. I would qualify, but certainly don't consider myself to be geriatric. A bit older, a bit less able to do the things I did when I was younger, but still active, reasonably fit and for the most part, able to fit into the general community. Why do we have to be labelled, and do we have to accept it?
Wasn't it fantastic to see the faces of the judges and the audience when Susan Boyle started
to sing as when she said she was 47 they laughed. So often when a person goes for a job 40
is labelled the cut off point. Many places now for over 55's to reside out of the mainstream
living so I suppose we are labelled because of age. Even at 30 our modelling days are mostly
over other than for a very few
Start school @ 5. Even reaching "sweet" 16 and then 18 and allowed to drive a car (I know 16 in some States) Key to the door at 21.
We are certainly labelled because of age from birth to death I suppose, but I agree Bev. in our 60's can do almost everything we always did (no not quite right :) When I actually think about it there are a lot of things we cannot do, certainly not as well anyway.
I googled geriatric age and it started calling people geriatrics at 65 - scary really.
Trouble is we are the same inside - same dreams and hopes and feel the same, it is just the casing
ages in nearly all older folks.
Hope God knew what he was doing and did not have a bad day and should have had us start life old
and go backwards with the experience we were born with. Good  ??
Lovely cool night for sleeping and the house is very pleasant this morn. and out in the garden
just lovely.
Have a great Wednesday everyone,
Phyl.
