This whistleblower has a warning for us

Andrew Wilkie – whistleblower turned MP – is sounding the alarm over draconian legislation that's about to become law...
The Espionage and Foreign Interference Bill is a deeply complex piece of legislation. A lot of it is uncontroversial, even beneficial (for example, reasonable changes to our mutiny laws).

However, there are two major issues which threaten our democratic rights and civil liberties:

1. Radical changes to Espionage laws: If these draft laws are not amended, investigating or reporting on a subject that could damage Australia's international reputation or harm its economic relations could attract a prison sentence of between 20 years and life. This would include exposing cases where Australia has breached international law.

2. Radical changes to Sabotage laws: 'Damaging' government or business property with an intention to harm Australia's international reputation or economic interests could attract a prison sentence of up to 25 years. However, under the bill, 'damage' includes limiting access to property by people who ordinarily have access. In other words, 'sabotage' could now include peacefully blockading a road to prevent the export of coal or uranium to another country. It could also include peacefully protesting Australia's involvement in an international war.

The bill also changes the legal definition of national security to include country's political and economic relations with another country, and that country's foreign influence.

If you want to read more about the impacts the laws will have our our democracy check out these fantastic op-eds from civil society leaders.

You can also read the original legislation and a Parliamentary committee's recommendations here
These laws would directly impact the GetUp movement's ability to make change on most issues that have an international dimension including climate change, refugees, and Trade deals such as the TPP.

Furthermore, the GetUp community relies heavily on the crucial work of investigative journalists and whistleblowers. If transparency and accountability is reduced, our ability to campaign will suffer.
Any protest that blocks access to buildings run by the Commonwealth or a business. For instance, a protest in an MPs' office, where that protest is intended to bring international attention to a significant criticism of Australia, will be a criminal offence. Or, a protest regarding Australia's conduct during a war, if it blocked access to shops, could qualify as "sabotage" for prejudicing Australia's national security.

SPREAD THE WORD!

We need to make sure people know about this – before it's too late

wonder how many properties our hero wilkie has purchased out of the so called whistle blowing, can anybody recall what he whistled about or was it whistling in the wind as so many of our now so called honest politicians are known for

This comes as no surprise.  This is what I keep referring to with the current government wanting a rich man's dictatorship.

The Turnbull government tried it on with the Free Trade Agreement where they slipped in th ebit about foreign business being able to sue the Australians government.  We can all see where that would lead.

The Turnbull government is in the process of shutting down the ABC having restricted GetUp from operating unhindered last year.

Now it wants to bring in laws which control average citizens from having a voice and protesting.

WELCOME TO THE COALITION DICTATORSHIP IN PROGRESS.  Almost here.  We have a right to be truly frightened about this.

Wake up average Australians.  When the chains are around your kneck it will be too late.

MICK, I'm not so sure we shouldn't have a PM on the basis of their financial financial success?

Do you think it should be written into the job specs?

"Wanted Prime Minister" Must be a financial failure, rich people need not apply.

I dont know if that sounds right somehow?

Darn right Mick this has been happening for decades now and everyone sat around like bloody sheeple and it is almost too bloody late -- there are more of us than them -- so if EVERYONE stood up to be counted these bastards would not get away with it,  but no one seems to give a  ---- if it was football or the Melbourne cup they would be out protesting --

Andrew Wilkie left the Military because of the stand Howard took with Bush in the Irag war -- he is one man that had/has pure GUTS

Adrianus - nothing to with having a quid.  Everything to do with the betrayal of a nation, corruption in government and enslaving a population.

Your post is the normal 'protect the boss' response.  Of no consequence and does not address the issue.  Why am I not surprised.

I agree PlanB, Wilkie got taken to the cleaners by Gillard and Shorten. They needed his vote, he needed pokie reform. A match made in heaven? They got his vote and he got shafted. You cant trust Labor and you cant trust Wilkie.

Apparently you can trust a government which has sold out the nation again and again?  I recognise a troll when I read their comments.  You are a troll.

"a government which has sold out the nation again and again?"

Which government are you referring to MICK? and how was the nation sold out?

Come on Herr Troll.

When you sign a so called Free Trade Agreement which allows foreign corporation to sue you that is betrayal.

When you give wealthy people a totally unneded tax cut whilst the rest are getting to a stage where they are unable to pay their way that is betrayal.

When you introduce laws to track citizens, laws to stop citiznes from conducting peaceful protests, laws to stop citizens from criticing bad governments, laws to hide the crooked dealing at the top of society then THAT IS BETRAYAL at the very least.

And then let's focus on repeated and continued attacks on free speech by closing down dissent from media outlets like GetUp and the ABC let's call it what it really is:  THE FORMATION OF A DICTATORSHIP.  Sadly most people will see this when they are enslaved, not before.  And of course YOU and the other trolls are promoting this betrayal into law.  There are no words to describe what I think of people like you.  Please go live in North Korea where you would fit in well.

It would appear that you and I have a very different view. To me you appear to be a raving leftist who wants to destroy free enterprise and tax the hell out of anyone who has a go, including the worker. I , on the other hand want Australia to rely less on the tax from workers and more on the tax of business. But MICK, you dont get a strong cash flow of tax revenue from weak and uncompetative industry. After 6 years of labor/Greens/Unions in government our industries took a massive hit. They are in the rebuilding stage now.

Albo reckons the ALP should stop being anti-business and find some common ground which will enable a more supportive relationship. I think he is right. To me it makes no sense to kill the goose which lays the gold eggs. It pains me to reach the conclusion, that you cant grasp this simple concept.  Standing in your way of logical thought process is your hatred, envy and greed. Let it go mate.

The normal response of a troll:  claim extremism or brand but NEVER discuss the facts.

You can run but you can't hide.

Your post is th enormal lies on top of lies.

America is the prime example of why rich people more money does not work.  That's why average Americans are the destitute poor.  Something you seek for the citizens of our country.

Your claim that Labor shut down industry is another lie.  Who closed down the car industry?  The Coalition did!

Next issue is debt.  As I have already stated under Labor $149 billion of debt left.  Under this government we are up to $547 as of 1017.  More now.  Tell me about prudent government!  This lot are as reckless as sailors on shoreleave and worse when you examine WHO and HOW they spend taxpayer money and who they attack for more of the same.

And then talk about political censorship and introducing laws to silence citizens from free speech.

You are a deadset paid troll Adrianus and you are working this site for the current government along with others.....presumably paid for with taxpayer dollars.  If we get a federal ICAC I would like to see you and others in jail where you so rightly belong.

Adrianus, Andrew Wilkie is the only MAN with any guts at all he left the Military when Howard followed Bush into the Iraq war -- because he said and we ALL knew it was wrong -- Howard should be had up for --- treason as the USA had the Iraq war planned WELL before 911 and that was a good excuse and a war fought on lies-- both Howard and Bush are dead evil and ----dead set liars.

BTW you talk about leftists -- you are so right wing so -- don't say this bloody lot we have in now are or have done not a bloody thing for this country,  they have been too busy lining their own pockets -- with Chinese money -- they are a deplorable lot

yeah, yeah, and Sadam Hussien was an angel. A pillar of society as evidenced by his very popular election wins with 96% of the vote. I wonder what ever became of the 4% who voted against him? Has anyone been able to contact them?

ah here is our labor micky boy, who in their right mind still takes his comments as not more then a laugh, look at to-days papers, the labor politicians own more properties then anybody can poke a stick at, labor micky included, may it be in Australia or overseas, yet here is labor micky accusing those rich people, the so-called top end of town,by the way those aweful rich people, 5% of these pay 50% of the total income taxes in this country yet by labor mickie's comments they should be ashamed of doing so, just wonder how much good old labor micky contribute, especial after his comments to those who rented his property "if you don't like my rent increase go and live in the country where rents are cheaper"see earlier labor mickie's comments in regard to leases those poor labor politicians are an eye opener, abo 5 properties, plibersec, 4 properties, one overseas and the list goes on, yet the labor party under shorty has now decided that when in government, god help us it ever will happen, those tax relieves passed by the government be re-viewed and reneged on, so all you who are celebrating over $ 500.00 back on your next tax return make sure you don't spend it, labor will come and retrieve it to put it in there own pockets! how I wish we just could for once trust the labor party, fat change, easier to trust a fox not to eat your chickens

Got something to hide have we people? Personally I don't protest, block roads or hinder company exports, so I'm not really bothered.

I am bothered about Turnbull, but,  the security of this country is important and the security forces work on this stuff all day,  there's good reason for some of it.   Any Vietnam Veterans in here? Remember those nasty protests people? Anyone know how damaged those blokes were from war,  only to come home to this crap? Today all we would say is 'that's un-Australian'!

Think beyond turncoat and his wealthy liberal ass wipes. Many of you in here will have super income from the very companies that may be protested against, hell,  you may even be in the same fund as Turnbull, you going to take your precious super out in protest? I think NOT folks.

I don't agree with a LOT that both parties are doing,  but I'll always put Aus first,  even it out means we earn big money from foreign owned companies operating here. And yes the China spread is seriously concerning,  but we should out years ago.

Just saying

I always put Australia first as well with DEMOCRACY at the top of the list.

So if we have another industry like the asbestos and cigarette industries we should not be allowwed to protext so as to effect change?  And if we have a government like the current one which keeps putting up Bills to send money to the rich and Bills which erode free speech then that is ok?

You seem to have come up with one issue whilst ignoring the greater threat.  If these laws are passed then an incumbent government like the current one will stay in power forever because no opposition will be allowed.  That IS a dictatorship.  Welcome to North Korea (Australian Division).

I cannot even believe that any real Australian would think these laws were anything other than what they are.  Next you'll be telling me that countires trying to force citizens onto digital currency are doing it to stop terrorism.

"I always put Australia first as well with DEMOCRACY at the top of the list."

Image result for laughing out loud

aaah, how nice to be back in the fold, what a cavernous mouth you have even your sinus is on show !!!

Image result for to follow blindly quote

Confucius, he say, LNP or ALP man who cannot see other side bound to forever live in fear.

You hate DEMOCRACY Adrianus and are working to silence all dissent.  Hence the Bill in the parliament to make it illegal to demonstrate or speak up against the government.

Voters need to tak heed.

All those American military drones are of little use if those who want to destroy the Australian dream are already living here.

MICK, have you ever thought of living in Russia or Saudi? I think you would like what they're doing with democracy. I've heard women can now drive legaly in Saudi?

Albo saw first hand the democratisation of your beloved ALP when he got 63% of the vote, but just missed out. Its unfortunate , but that's democracy (Labor Style).

I cant help but wonder what could have been?

I mean if Albo got say 85% of the vote? Would the ALP have abandoned this thing they call democracy??

Who won the vote??

Naturally the guy with the 37%.

Good law

treason is a despicable act

anyone who chooses to harm ones own country should face the full force of the law

still wonder why anybody still reads the lunatic comments of labor mickyboy defending the comments of wilky, a bloke who only be remembered for selling out our country Australia, he represent tasmania, that by itself states enough

Raphael, you say treason is a despicable act!???   Then Howard should be locked up for the term of his natural life for following Bush into Iraq

We were misled by faulty intelligence on WMD

still we got rid of dictator Sadam

Oy vey iz mir, looks like some of  you guys don't like Wilkie because he has scruples???

Btw, no way would we have Adri.anus and catfish Raphael as LNP propagandists. They're like Jekyll and Heckle, need I say more?

micha your reply must go down as the dummest comment in these columns, wilky having scruples, what an absolute joke, you have to be a tasmanian!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aaah, heemskerk the peasant speaks. Some people have a left brain and a right brain, others a walnut.
