Throw this toothpaste away

Colgate toothpaste and many products contain triclosan - a chemical which disturbs thyroid, testosterone, and estrogen regulation, which can create a host of issues including early puberty, poor sperm quality, infertility, obesity, and cancer,” the statement continues.......

“Studies have also shown it can lead to impaired learning and memory, exacerbate allergies, and weaken muscle function. The impacts of prolonged exposure during fetal development, infancy, and childhood can be particularly severe, resulting in permanent damage.”

The FDA in america has just issued a warning this week noting that they will be putting a ban on triclosan — a common antibacterial agent used in soaps, detergents, toys, cosmetics, and toothpaste.  Apparently, the chemical poses a high-degree of health risks and side effects.  Colgate Total is just one of many products that list triclosan as an active ingredient.

Wow - no wonder more and more people have allergies and serious health issues.

this poison is in so many things.  why were manufacturers allowed to use it in the first place, and why has it taken so long to get it banned?

Neither triclosan nor triclocarban are banned for use in Australia and can still be found in a number of personal care products, from soaps to toothpaste and even cutting boards and cleaning cloths. This is despite concerns they may contribute to antibiotic resistance and disrupt hormones.

I've just checked on some liquid soap hand wash in my bathroom and sure enough it has triclosan listed in the ingredients...sadly a lot of items do not even have an ingredient list.

Kika:  you have not been keeping a close watch.  Why were asbestos and cigarettes allowed to continue being sold in Australia long after the effects of these were clear? Because it is good for business.  You should be aware that the health of citizens matters not where a buck is concerned.

Your post does not surprise me.  Thanks for the thumbs up.

Kika, Get your facts right. The FDA did not say "the chemical poses a high-degree of health risks and side effects." What the FDA does say is "we don’t know the significance of those findings to human health". The reason it is banned from soaps is because  "FDA doesn’t have evidence that triclosan in OTC consumer antibacterial soaps and body washes provides any benefit over washing with regular soap and water." It hasn't banned it in toothpaste because Colgate was able to demonstrate that the health benefits of the product (it is effective at reducing plaque and gingivitis) outweighed any potential for harm. Having said that I'm not suggesting people should use products with Triclosan, I'm just over sensationalism without actually reading the FDA link supplied.

CLAIM

In June 2017, the FDA announced it would be banning the use of triclosan in various products, including Colgate Total.

RATING MOSTLY FALSE
WHAT'S TRUE

In September 2016, the FDA ruled that a host of products could no longer be sold due to their containing triclosan, an antimicrobial agent.

WHAT'S FALSE

Despite containing triclosan, the toothpaste was conspicuously not included in the list of banned products, and continues to be approved by the FDA; the agency made no announcement regarding triclosan or Colgate Total in June 2017.

And here comes the business lobby.....  Coal anyone?

so, despite containing the toxin, colgate total toothpaste was not banned, although many other products were.  i wonder why?  i smell a rat.

i would still throw away that toothpaste which, happily, i have never used.  nor does my toothpaste contain another poison, flouride.

i think its especially useful to warn people that this product contains a harmful ingredient as it will still be promoted, marketed and used by many people.  but i guess the profits of colgate-parmolive are more important that people's health.

Kika, you really had me with you .....until you brought up the "Fluoride being poison" story. Now I'm with Sal and thinking you've overdone the theatrics.

As usual!

Flourides are indeed poisonous. Our drinking water may be deemed safe but prolonged exposure to even small levels of poison in a diluted form are not understood.  Give it time.

how long Mick. Flouride in water will kill you in 9725.227814145 years of you drink 2.5L every day

OMG! I have been using Colgate Total for years. These corporations are just as evil.

But you look so damn good Jackie. Keep using it.

What Colgate has to say on the issue including why Colgate Total toothpaste has already been approved through the FDA’s NDA process.

Nothing is really "safe" and the alarmists make life even more difficult for others with their neverending pessimism.

Kids swallow toothpaste, so don't let them use colgate, as an adult one should know better than to swallow but rinse thoroughly.

Funny.  Go for it....eat huge amounts of fat and sugar as well as foods with every additive known to mankind.  Toothpaste is just another man made product which we are told is good for us. The truth is they don't know but they figure if facts ever show that something is bad then by that time they will have made billions of dollars so who cares.  This is what goes around the minds of business leaders who do not care about people.  Only profits.

It's all a plan. A plan by the illuminati. Feed the people "every additive known to mankind"  - this way we can take care of over population, LOL

Ha ha ha.  All to do with making money.  There is no price too high to stop those waking money.  ANybody who saw the Four Corners program last night would understand about corruption which is well known but let go.

I'll just have to stop slathering the stuff on my toast!

Do you have teeth Kika -

And many toothpastes also contain SUGAR!

You're not supposed to eat it dummy.

funny - a labor puppet calling someone a dummy
