Trump impeached. What now?

Trump is the third US president to be impeached, after a historic vote in the Democratic controlled House of Representatives yesterday.

The two articles that were passed in the House of Representatives focussed on his abuse of power and obstruction of congress surrounding the Ukraine scandal.

Not a single Republican voted to impeach Trump. Some have suggested that this suggests that the Democrats are motivated by political bias.

This will lead to Trump’s trial in the Senate, who will decide whether or not to remove him from office in January. In order for Trump to be removed from office, two-thirds of senators must vote in favour of impeachment. However, as the Senate is currently held by Trump’s party, the Republicans, it is unlikely that the vote will result in favour of his removal.

No US president has ever been re-elected after being impeached. Do you think Trump could be the first in the upcoming 2020 election? Or has he run his course?

The Senate will punt this BS right out of the ball park. I don't know if Pelosi is a registered sorcière but one thing sure stands out. She does not need a besom broom for a prop.

Funny:-) comment but appropriate

Seems to me to be a total waste of time and money.

Nothing surprising there, both sides of Politics are experts at it.

Trump was way out of line with the telephone call to the Ukraine. The only thing saving him is the tribal nature of politics inthe U.S. He seems to have more in common with despots such as in Russia, Turkey and North Korea.

The Democrats have been overly anxious about trying to remove him and they should have waited and given him enough rope to hang himself. The rope is there now but because of their earlier actions they could well have undermined their case against him.

The evidence seems to be there to convict him but I doubt that will happen and he could well win the next election. God help us.

Anyone who thinks Trump is okay is crazy!
The list of inappropriate actions and words is too long to list.
Noone should be supporting or voting for him.

He is a blight on the world and his own country.
His party should look for a decent human being to replace him and seize this opportunity to get rid of him.
The Republicans are just worried about their own jobs by not doing so.

People power is the only hope now in that all the young ones need to come out to vote and all that know him to be a scourge on their country to stand up and not only vote but make sure their family and friends do too.

God help us you say Tanker.   So tell us   Oh wise one   who would you have voted for ???

I wholeheartedly agree with all the comments made by you all. However; it is Trump who has got rid of the scum bags and is making America great again!

"Not so", I hear you all cry, emphatically; but he has, largely, put a stop to importing huge amounts of cheap crap from overseas, stood his ground with illegal immigrants and brought manufacturing and jobs back to America.

Our scummy politicians would do well to take a leaf out of his book! At least he is not doing what our politicians are doing to our country!

We have ScoMo, giving himself a huge undeserved pay rise, jetting off to Hawaii with his family and asking his ministers and the press to keep his whereabouts a secret. He is supposedly a good Christian man; when it suits him. Remember he was extremely vocal when Christine Nixon went to the hairdressers and to lunch and her 'phone was switched off, so no one could contact her during the bush fires? ScoMo was very vocal about it! Surely, “What is good for the goose is good for the gander”? ScoMo is nothing but”happy clappy” hypocrite and a liar!

If he was one bit concerned about Australia, he would stop telling lies about being "In the black”, not given himself an instant pay rise,  increase pensions, not be a rat deserting a sinking ship and making sure that Australia returns to what it used to be. Instead he is selling off everything we have worked long and hard for, allowing the Chinese to “sell air” like they are doing in Glen Waverley, Victoria, to erect disgusting high rise buildings, like they do in China and is fighting tooth and nail to defend Gladys Liu, a Chinese Communist supporter and his Treasurer , Josh Frydenberg, who it is yet to be proven if he is constitutionally fit to be in parliament and to add insult to injury, allowing the Chinese flag to fly over the Box Hill police station.

Trump will get off scot-free in the Senate, because it's dominbated by Republicans. The Democrats' strategy, I believe, is to damage Trump politically in order to make him unelectable in 2020. Sadly, this may backfire. Also, the whole exercise is polarizing America as never before.

Spot on Intellego

It is only a matter of time before this clown has had his days. What scares me most is Scumo loves the guy and seems to want to be like him.

??? Scumo

Do you mean ScoMo, aka Scott Morrison.

As for the US impeachment ... date appears to have stalled due to indecision on the timing of a date.

Agree with Intelligo's comment above. Not that I like DT, seems to be a lot of hot air at the moment.

Yes SLOMO is definatley morping into a smaller, less impressive version of Trump.  But like all empty suits, he will morph into whatever he thinks the voters want.

The impeachment is based on real deficiencies in Trumps character, whether or not it will induce Republicans to change their votes is debatable, but it may induce non voters to come out and vote Democrat.  I doubt anyone other than a rusted on party camp follower would vote for Trump,  like Australia the US seems to be very much tribalised.

SOOT MORRISON the ad man must have thought we wanted a "Daggy Dad" for PM before the election. Did we want a Daggy Dad? Obviously some people did but I would much prefer a real leader.

Don't know what will happen with Trump, only know what I hope will happen.
