TV viewing linked to cancer

Recent research has linked prolonged sitting while viewing TV to a raised risk of developing colorectal cancer.

The findings were independent of the level of exercise a person performed or their body mass index (BMI).

The researchers behind the new study note that young-onset colorectal cancer is usually more aggressive than colorectal cancer that strikes later in life and is likely to have some distinct biological features.

Also, by the time diagnosis takes place, the cancer is usually more advanced, resulting in poorer rates of survival.

Read the full study here.

Will this study encourage you to watch less television? How much television do you watch per week?

I record EVERYTHING never watch anything live so can flick through anything I am not interested in --I do not have anything but free to air and find there are enough interesting programs to watch mostly docos/and the likes of Catalyst etc etc -- I don't watch through the day -- only when I get into bed rather early because I HAVE to lie down so either watch what I have recorded or read.

Never watch movies --

Yes same here RnR --   Thanks for confirming

The report states:

"prolonged sedentary TV viewing time, a surrogate for a more inactive lifestyle"

I assume that it is not just TV viewing, but any practice that is inactive like this.

Yes - but what about sitting working at a desk etc 5 days a week?  Does that do the worst too.

Dont now about you, but suspect, like myself many do those exercises for control of muscles in the posterior.

Ha-Ha! Of course, that's all because of TV )) The third part of population is sedentary most of life)
