Type 2 Diabetes.

About 20 Years ago, I was diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes. At first I was treated with tablets twice a day, and this kept me in control for a while. In the last two years, my Diabetes was so bad, that, I could no longer control it with insulin, medications, diets, or exercise. Beside diabetes, I also had a high blood pressure, and sleep apnoea. I was in a mess and very depressed, as I had lots of plans for my retirement.
Finally, my Doctor suggested that I should have a surgery called (Roux-En-Y) and after this procedure, I should be back to normal, at first, I was very sceptical as, I never heard that there could be an alternative to Diabetes, other than Insulin, Medication, and Diets.
I went straight home to my computer, and checked “Mediline Medical Encyclopedia” and found out that is exactly what I was after, No more Tablets, No more Insulin, No more blood pressure, No more sleep apnoea, and I am now losing lots of weight, 12 Kgs. since my operation 3 weeks ago. The operation took about 4 Hours, I was admitted at the Box hill Hospital, for about four days. The operation was totally funded by “Medi- care” as the ramifications of Diabetes, would have been a much higher cost to “Medi-care”.
After the second day of my operation, I was off all medications for the Diabetes, and now 3 weeks later, I have reduced the medications for the high blood pressure, and it seems next week, I will be seeing my GP. To further decrease the medications for the blood pressure, as for the sleep apnoea, it is all gone, thank God no more snoring and chocking at night.
Before the Operation, I was 110Kgs. Now 98Kgs. and losing. The Doctor assured me that, I will stabilise at about 78, to 80 Kgs. By then, I should be without any medications.
I have battled weight problems since my teenage years, do not be fooled by dieting, diets do not works, in fact my Doctors showed me statics, that only 4% of all diets are successful. Do not be fooled, with all these adds you see on Tele. and else where. The only way to treat obesity is eating less, and the only way to achieve this. Is through the procedure of the Roux- En-Y. Do look it up on the internet, or in any Medical Encyclopedia.

Thank you Chuck and whilst I do not have the problem I am glad to say I will be happy to pass your infrmation on to my mates ..............clay

Good on you Chuck - whatever works for you is good if it means you are achieving your goals, be it weight loss, reduction in medication, self esteem etc. etc. It is so easy for people to generalise and what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another.

I have C.O.P.D. (and no, I don't smoke) and to combat this I was put onto a series of medications which caused my weight to balloon. My ability to exercise was severely affected due to my lung problems, so I was in a catch 22 situation. None of my problems were the cause of over-eating, I was lucky in that I was able to move to a less humid climate which has resulted in a massive reduction in medications and subsequent weight loss, which has enabled me to exercise more. So it is not always a matter of over-eating and I commend you on the action you took and thank you for sharing that information with us. May you long continue on the road to good health.

Thanks for telling us your story and giving us more information about diabetes.

Regards,

Robert

Thank you all for your good wishes. Here is the latest update on my state of health.

I have now lost 36 Kilos, and feel so much better for it, I am no longer on insulin, or tablets for the Diabetes, this procedures worked quite well, however at first it was difficult, as I had to adjust to a new way of eating, smaller quantities, and softer food, there is still few things I cannot eat such as cabbage, and few fibrous food, also I find it difficult to eat and drink at the same time, plus the fact that I do not digest my food fully, this could cause some flatulent, I take degas tablets, or charcoal tablets after eating. In all this is a small price to pay, for re gaining myself a life with more activity, I now have a push bike, a motor bike, I could work in the garden for hours, I could take my dog for long walks along the creek, and it is so nice to be able to dress myself with nice clothes, as compare to before the operation I had to buy and dress whatever I could find to fit. In all everything has a price, and to me that is a small price to pay in return for a better quality of life.

Chuck
