Vaccinations to roll out by February says the PM

Australians will start receiving coronavirus vaccinations from February following advice from medical experts and regulators.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison says coronavirus vaccinations will roll out in mid to late February after news from the Therapeutic Goods Administration that the Pfizer vaccine should be approved by the end of January.

"It is moving considerably faster than normal vaccine approval processes but without skipping a step, without cutting a corner," said Mr Morrison.

Another vaccine by AstraZeneca is due to be approved in February.

Once approved, Pfizer's global protocols require two weeks for vaccines to be delivered.

After the vaccines have been delivered they will need a week for batch testing of the doses.

The Pfizer vaccine comes in two parts, with the initial jab and a follow-up within two weeks to a month.

It looks like the first people to be vaccinated will be frontline healthcare workers quarantine and order workers aged care and disability workers and aged care residents.

The Prime Minister hopes to see around 80,000 vaccinations a week, and 4 million people vaccinated by the end of March.

Do you feel confident that the Pfizer vaccine will work? How soon will you be lining up to receive your jab?
