Vale Dr G Yunupingu

Indigenous musician Dr G Yunupingu has died aged 46.

Born blind, the singer-songwriter from Elcho Island became the highest-selling Indigenous artist in history, selling more than half a million copies of his albums, which were sung in a mix of Yolngu and English.

He died at the Royal Darwin Hospital on Tuesday. He had been battling chronic liver and kidney-related problems for years.

Dr Yunupingu was once described as "the greatest voice this continent has ever recorded" and toured across the world, playing for audiences that included former US President Barack Obama, the Pope and Queen Elizabeth II.

Due to cultural sensitivities we have not included a full image or the first name of Dr Yunupingu.

Gurrumul’s New Album Is All Gospel

I hope he gets the funeral he deserves.

Along with Amazing Grace with Paul Kelly (link above yours Toot) ... his Hallelujah made me shed tears today.

A fantastic singer who accomplished so much despite being born blind, very sad that he died so young from a disease avoidable but too common in the indigenous. RIP

A humble man with such stunning talent. A great loss. RIP

I have always enjoyed the music of this talented Indigenous Australian. Rest in Peace Dr Yunupingu.

I am sorry to say , that I have never heard of him ...

We have lost such an amazing human being and such wonderful talent..a beautiful soul taken too soon...

Rest in Peace: Dr G Yunupingu

R,I,P,    DE G YUNPINGU,     i have only heard him on the tv,     but a very talented man,
