Vick's Vapor Rub

A friend sent this to me in n e mail and I wonder who has heard of it before ............I had not ............and is it true

Vick's Vapor Rub !

During a lecture on Essential Oils, they told us how the foot
soles can absorb oils. Their example: Put garlic on your feet and
within 20 minutes you can 'taste' it. (keep reading)

Some of us have
used Vicks Vapour Rub for years for everything from chapped lips to sore toes and many body parts in between. But I've never heard of this.. And don't laugh, it works 100% of the time, although the scientists who discovered it aren't sure why. To stop night time coughing in a child (or adult as we found out personally), put Vicks Vapour Rub generously on the bottom of the feet at bedtime, then cover with socks.

Even persistent, heavy, deep coughing will stop in about 5 minutes and stay stopped for many, many hours of relief. Works 100% of the time and is more effective in children than even very strong prescription cough medicines.

In addition it is extremely soothing and comforting and they will sleep soundly.

Just happened to tune in A.M. Radio and picked up this guy talking about why cough medicines in kids often do more harm than good, due to the chemical makeup of these strong drugs so, I listened. It was a surprise finding and found to be more effective than prescribed medicines for children at bedtime, in addition to have a soothing and calming effect on sick children who then went on to sleep soundly..

My wife tried it on herself when she had a very deep constant and persistent cough a few weeks ago and it worked 100%! She said that it felt like a warm blanket had enveloped her, coughing stopped in a few minutes and believe me, this was a deep, (incredibly annoying!) every few seconds uncontrollable cough, and she slept cough-free for hours every night that she used it..

If you have grandchildren, pass this on. If you end up sick, try it yourself and you will be absolutely amazed at how it works.

Hi Clay

I read this on another forum some months ago and actually tried it on my twin grandchildren (then aged 11 months) and it really did work.

They had dreadful colds and had been coughing badly for several nights in a row prior to us doing this.

Cheers. Goldie.

Thanks Goldie ..............a good report ...............best wishes ...clay

Yes I also know that t works--also on the chest area----but if you go to snopes--it says it doesn't work--so thats just one thing they are wrong on.

I was putting Vicks on the soles of my kids feet 50 plus years ago, on the advice of a lady with 9 kids and have been using it to great effect ever since and yes it does work snopes not withstanding

Thanks gang ..........yes I agree .........Snopes can be wrong and in this case thay mostly say that it has not been definitely proven ...........Have a look at the story which I have just found

I think that we can say that it does work ...............

I know that Vicks has been used in households for a long long time - however we should keep in mind that it is a petroleum-based product, and the general consensus now is that it is not a good idea to use these on your body.

There are other safer products. I have decided to boycott any product that uses petroleum ingredients, preferring to use healthier alternatives. There are,for example, lots of cosmetic ranges sold in pharmacies or health food stores, that contain only harmless plant ingredients - and they are not necessarily expensive - Natural Instinct, to name one, is sold in pharmacies, Priceline and health food stores and contains harmless ingredients.

You could any products containing tea tree oil or eucalyptus instead of Vicks, and get a good result.

To be honest, when I was a child and suffered from bronchitis, I used to have Vicks rubbed on my chest, but I got no good effect from it. Paracetemol is better for general cold and pain relief, and Ibuprofen for inflammation.

Yes I also use those--BUT the old Vicks is always in the supboard--and will be for ever more---I find the Tes Tree is very good for Mossie bites etc

Anyone on any medication needs to be aware mixing many things with medication can be dangerous. Even grapefruit juice and many Herbal Remedies can be dangerous - some on their own and many when mixed with Prescription Medication.

Read the label on Ibuprofen for one as it is not for folk 65 +..............................

Often the side effects of herbal remedies are much worse than prescription drugs for some people. Everyone has to make their own decisions but on saying that most of the decisions are made for us because of necessity with our health. We all have to be very careful giving or even suggesting medication for anything as there is no blanket formula which suits all - more's the pity. I find the worst thing about such a lot of things we eat or do today which are good or bad for us is completely reversed if we wait long enough.

All the best,

Phyl.
