vitamins and wellbeing

from nor-thur.
How did our ancestors live so long without vitamins? Possibly because physically they worked harder than some of us. Mine drank milk from their own cows, made their cream and butter. Killed their cattle as needed to survive and drank water from their tanks. Mostly if they got ill, their children or relatives helped out or in rare cases, some ended up in hospital. It seems nowadays that even little children need vitamins as do animals. So again, I ask you, how did our children and animals survive? Ours ate bones from the butcher and table scraps, yet mostly survived to old age.

Yes it makes you wonder how we and our parents all got on--what with lead paints etc--all that bread and dripping/ and good full cream milk--and most lived to a ripe old age

Did you really feed your children on bones from the butcher and table scraps.

OK just kidding.

Hey Keandha, How do you think I got these broken teeth? I shouldn't comment. A long time ago, I thought you were old when you turned 70, but now I realise that you are not old until you turn 90.

Our dogs always ate anything cooked or raw bones --chicken--or meat--and also onions and chocolate--and lived to a good age and never had any problems

You made me laugh, Keandha. Serves me right for not reading my typing to say both children and animals survived on bones from the butcher and table scraps. Actually butcher's bones were used first for soup so in a way, I guess we did eat them. Most people grew their own vegetables and had fruit trees. We swopped our extras, i.e., fruit for bread. No rules about health and safety then. How did we survive? Very well thank you.

Northur,

Glad you have a sense of humour, I couldn't resist it. My staple breakfast during WW2, and for quite a while after, was beef dripping on toast. As you say, we did survive.
