Voting to go digital: Pyne

The Government plans to introduce electronic voting to the lower house of the Australian Federal Parliament by 2019, the leader of the House of Representatives, Christopher Pyne, has announced.

A statement said the Department of Parliamentary Services would soon invite tenders from Australian businesses to handle the job.

“The implementation of electronic voting will reduce significantly the time required for each vote in the chamber,” Pyne stated.

“Voting outcomes will be transparent, accurate, and known immediately freeing up more time for important parliamentary business to be conducted each day the House sits.

“Electronic voting will also provide an electronic solution for recording division voting and improve online accessibility to division process and results.”

Do you support electronic voting in the House of Representatives?

This is not for the Plebs, we will still have to use a pencil.

I always take a PEN

Both houses are often near empty, they only turn up when they have to vote. If the voting is quick and easy that will give them more time to be absent from the chamber to drink, have sex with staffers, gossip about each other, lie to the public in press interviews, have their little party meetings to argue and scheme, or do whatever it is they normally do. I’m sure they would love more time to do their nothing stuff. But will it benefit the public? - nope!

A very good  summary.

Yep, that pretty much covers it.

Does this mean MHRs will not have to be in the chamber to vote on divisions? What will happen to the time honoured tradition of 'ringing the bells'? Will MHRs  will be able to relax in their Canberra apartments (paid for with their 'away from home allowance') and not even bother to front up to Parliament?  Maybe they could all stay at home, listen to proceedings on ABC News Radio, and vote 'on command'. If  the latter they would need a substantial salary increase to compensate for the loss of income from losing their 'away from home allowance'. As for transparency, why bother, they all vote to their party's call, including the cross benches.

Also they will expect an increase in renumeration for the privilege. Never trust them the main parties in Australia are socialist in outlook and do not beleive in democracy. Look at the EU bureaucrats and many Western Governments today who  have deceived the people whom they are elected to serve. This episode with Ray Martin is insignificant when you see what is taking place in our so-called democracies. In actual fact the Australian Government may use this incident to force through more legislation to stifle debate in this country.

I agree Eddy ...theoretically we could save Millions if the Politicians did not adjust their salaries.

The all electorate system & commissions is corrupt & all election is bull bully puppet circuss corrupt pilitical idiots

Plan or not plan the all elecrion is fake
