Yeeeeha! Thank you Wentworth :))))

Counting so far shows the Liberal Party has suffered a projected swing of more than 20 per cent against candidate Dave Sharma.

The coalition has nobody but themselves to blame for this result IMO.

• They started it by ousting the incumbent member for Wentworth

• Exacerbated the problem by totally nonsensical blunders like the "administrative error" debacle with the Pauline Hanson "It's OK to be white" vote.

• Scomo's Jerusalem embassy thought bubble which managed to offend the Jews, Palestinians and Indonesia. What can you say!!

• Rumblings in the Nats about another leadership challenge to bring back the wondrous Barnaby Joyce. So much for stability.

AND the last three all within the final week of the by-election. Idiots Inc.

Sure, sure olbaid.

We don't need Russian meddling.

We can stuff things up BIGTIME without foreign intervention.

But if you want to do a Tony Abbott style bluff-fest and shirtfront Putin, go your hardest LOL.

False news BULLSHIT olbaid!

Right olbaid ... thought she was only implicated US mid-terms.

Not sure Project Lahkta would be interested in the lowly (by comparison) Wentworth by-election.

Speaking of sniffing around.

Is Elena Alekseevna Khusyaynova related to Julian Assange's cat and his subsequent and upcoming legal action against Ecuador who now require him to clean up after the said feline ???

It won’t be the first time you have lied olbaid!

The truth will be revealed soon ... Olbaid.

Far out ... you sound like an alternative cult.

Bit like the Coalition at the moment LOL. So funny.

Ye gods, the Russians would never back a lesbian!!!!

What does one believe when a liar says “I have never lied”?

I repeat: What does one believe when a liar says “I have never lied”?

Loved Kerryn’s speech highlighting DECENCY, INTEGRITY, HUMANITY.

In contrast, Scomonono’s speech came across as hollow, macho/aggressive, insincere CRAP.

Dave Sharma’s speech was gracious and decent but most of the people he thanked, apart from wife and daughters, were men. Still, he came across as a far more decent person than Scomonono.

Only 3 times? Damn! Piddly effort! I like to think of you hanging over the toilet chucking.

I too watched the results of the Wentworth by-election. Dave Sharma was very decent in his defeat but when I heard Scott Morrison's speech, all the hate and venom towards the Labor Party, not a good look from a so-called Christian, his speech reminded me of the old Adolph Hitler rallies. He was shouting and spitting all over the place. Good on Dr. Kerryn Phelps, she is a very classy woman.

Scott Morrison comes across like a used car salesman. He said something like “We believe you get ahead by working for it” (something like that). Tell that to Gay teachers in religious schools!!!

Yes, Robi Morrison is just that -- a salesman -- after all thats what he was b4 he entered politics -- and he has the personality of one too -- full of BS -- tell you what you want to hear -- then flip-flop if it doesn't suit --

BREAKING NEWS

ABC election analyst Antony Green says Wentworth vote "much narrower than we were expecting last night", result could "still be turned around".

Currently Dave Sharma and Kerryn Phelps are separated by only 884 votes as postal vote counting continues.

How depressing! Would be so sad for Kerryn Phelps to lose after thinking she had won. I don’t think they should have called it before counting the postal and nursing home votes because it was so very likely they would favour the Liberal candidate.

6:45:11 PM AEDT

Kerryn Phelps 1,626 votes ahead of Dave Sharma.

Sharema got 50% more than Phelps on the promary vote

Sharema ... promary vote ????

Presume you're having a very 'happy' Sunday evening ... LOL.

Enjoy.

This whole thing sounds like it was a bit of a shambles.  As if calling a victory before all the votes were actually counted wasn't bad enough there was the constantly changing number of votes between the two main contestants.

I heard at one point it was only 200, then it jumped to over a thousand within minutes.  One explanation I heard was that a whole swag of votes had been put in the wrong pile.   You can put that down to human error or follow conspiracy theories about rigging votes, either way, it's a shambles.

Might be time to take the humans out of the counting procedure and consider electronic voting, with all the problems that can incur - remembering the Census.

I don’t see why we can’t have electronic counting. That is, vote on paper so no hackers can interfere with the vote but then scan each ballot paper into a computer program to count the votes and allocate preferences. Or perhaps that could be done as a secondary ‘checking’ process after humans have first tallied the vote?

I find it disturbing that postal votes can arrive after polling day and be counted. There has been no mention of a cut off date - people could hold their vote back until they hear the result, or likely result. Postal votes should have to arrive by polling day and all received after that should be discarded.

Apparently, those 900 or so missing votes were in two separate electorates, Bondi Beach was one mentioned, I can't remember the other.  One seems accidental, two ... let's say careless, to be generous.

And what a coincidence, both lost votes from the same candidate.

From ABC commentary on election night:

“18:10 - There have also been 12,500 postal vote packs sent out. Not all of those will be returned. Postal votes are NOT counted tonight. They will be processed next week. The final cut-off for postals is in two weeks time.”

The final cut-off for postal votes is two weeks after Election Day? Two weeks??? That is shocking!!! Why is that allowed?

The people have spoken, time for politicians to stop relying on stupid political slogans and put forward a bit of good old fashioned policy.

If you can't tell us what it is you want to do and back it up with a plan to achieve it, best you don't say anything.

Primary vote was for the Liberal bloke.

But the whole thing relies on preferences nowadays.

Why when they proudly say one man one vote one value. (man being all genders)

We started off Westminster system.  Non-compulsory voting and one vote per person.

Meaning first candidate with the most votes wins the seat.

No prefences back then, these have mucked it up and surely postal votes should be in sooner rather than later! Now we gt more than one vote so not really democratic any longer.

Tweaked to suit the politicians likely more so than for the best oucome for majority of us all.

Plus Robi said should be electronic voting and thats 100% correct - should be in 2018 surely.

Main thing I hold against preferences is this. It makes for dodgy dealing and isnt kosher - I will do this if you do that - always seems to benefit the doers not the majority of voters.

Since the UK which Westminster system we started out with - FPTP wins and non-mandatory voting always gets both majors either in or out like here but also has a third party with some influence - more than we get here. Liberal Democrats or similar name in Westminster these days so 3 to have to agree and with that surely less conivence to make their lives easier at our expense dont you think?

It took an independent, Ted  Mack to get super down to 9% like us from 69% pa of their salaries- but today it is 16% whilst we are at 9% - suspiciously like the 2 party agreements on preferences etc  at work once again.

Just saying - what do yu think? About preferences and about compulsory voting.
