What do you think of Tinder?

Fifteen per cent of Australians regularly use the online blind-dating app. That number equates 3.5 million people, swiping 50 million times a day. Per capita, Australians are now the biggest users of Tinder in the world. Big numbers, considering it was only launched in Australia two years ago.

If you don’t know what Tinder is, it’s an online blind-dating app that reduces the chances of rejection by matching people who like each other. Users scroll through pictures of other members within the same vicinity and swipe one way on their phone when to pick the ones they like. If the person you ‘like-swiped’ likes you too, then you can start chatting and potentially meet up with them.

What do you think of Tinder? Do you think it’s a good idea or do you prefer the classic act of courting? Have you, or do you know anyone, who has used Tinder? How do you think this will this affect future generations when it comes to social engagement?

Thought tinder was something used for lighting a fire. Nah mate, prefer the old fashioned eyes meeting across a crowded room, some enchanted evening sorta thing. Besides my wife won't let me use this app!!

neber herd of tinder but mite give it a go a dere is prolly some filly out dere lookin fer a hansum chap like me.

..lol - doubt if anyone over the age of 40 would get any hot "hits" on Tinder!  So guess most of us on YLC are pretty safe?  :-)   Thought the demographic age for Tinder was 24 - 35 years?  Purely a "sex" app. -  rather than "dating"!  It is not like an RSVP or eharmony site........

Tinder has had more than it's share of media coverage ...there was the girl supposedly thrown to her death from a high-rise balcony on the Gold Coast ....also the girl here in Melbourne (Bacchus Marsh? not sure....) where she met the guy for a few drinks in a beer garden and went back to his place and ended up mutilated in a wheelie-bin!  Nice!!  (Both met the guys on Tinder!)

My son (GenY) knows of friends/people he works with who have used Tinder and some of my friend's adult "kids" have used Tinder (all in their mid to late 20's) ....it is an App.  known for "instant sex" and IMO the risks these girls take meeting up with guys on Tinder is frightening....(.Ted Bundy was a serial killer and look how charasmatic/ charming he was!)

As YLC is an over 50's site - was quite surprised to see this "Tinder" Topic as no-one here would have any "hands-on" (excuse the pun) experience with Tinder?? Would be all just hearsay??    :-)

"Online Dating" would be more applicable to the age group here rather than Tinder! (sorry) lol .....

Never heard of it either

I personally think Tinder is an app for the younger generation, it's certainly used by celebs as well as the general 20 - 30 age group, given this day of technology I feel it does and will have it's place for meeting young people and will seem to be the 'norm', I think it will grow with this generation and others to follow. I'm sure there would be a lot of success stories out there as well as the bad ones, the fact Tinder is so popular it obviously has it's place..... Having said all that, I don't know anyone who has used the site, I only know what has been in the media and that's all been negative of course..... as for me..... Nah, not interested in any of those meet sites, and there are plenty around, besides, my hubby wouldn't be too impressed...
