What would you pack in an overnight bag?

a pair of overnight bags

Last weekend, our travel editor at large SJ, wrote a great piece on how to pack an overnight bag. However, her sample list (let me stress that is was a SAMPLE list) was met with some interesting comments, which, if you're interested, you can read here.

Anyway, here's SJ's list:

Wear:

  • white jeans

  • navy singlet

  • striped jumper

  • denim jacket

  • black hat

  • clogs

  • scarf

  • watch.

Pack:

  • black jeans

  • shorts

  • dress

  • long sleeve knit

  • navy shirt

  • t-shirt

  • orange silk singlet

  • sneakers.

What do you think of SJ's list? Why not tell us what you'd pack for an overnight stay? Just to make it interesting, let's assume you don't know what the weather will be like, and that you may go even out for a nice dinner or breakfast too.

Small torch.

small clock.

moisturiser, light foundation, lipstick, eye shadow and mascara.

Hair brush.

Nickers and thong.

tee.

shorts.

Joggers.

high heels  (maybe, depending) or flats.

Sandals (depending)

Nice dress.

Jeans.

That would do for o'nite, but less if I knew where I was going.

Geez Phyl, it's over night...lol... you will need a large suit case for that lot..... :)

OK, I'm basic..

Hairbrush/ comb

Change of undergarments

outfit for next day

toiletries

PJ's

Nice lists, although I probably wouldn't pack a thong Phyl! I do like how you took care of the torch and clock first though!

Pyl, why only one thong? Are you an amputee?

I always wear a pair of thongs, and pack another pair. I rarely go anywhere that requires shoes and socks.

No, you're thinking of Peg.

LOL D. and I forgot the most important two, toothpaste and brush oh and deodorant.

BUT hey in my defence where am I being taken for the night and two days? Gotta be prepared.

You forgot your vitamins Phyl :)

SO VERY TRUE Robi. BUT they would have to fill my back pack lol but of course they would have to go. Silly me I would just take two days worth so no need for the back pack.

I'd have to put my entire wardrobe on mini wheels....

I just never know what to wear!... LOL

Now that's my style of "overnight" bag!!

lol Leon, er the thong was to wear under jeans. Hate knicker lines under jeans.

Oh, that sort of thong. At first I thought it was Madam Lash replying.

I too wear thongs under my jeans. A pair of them way down under the end of the legs where my feet stick out.

Do your seams show?

Keeping it light like Deanna, would use my phone as the clock and as the torch along with a charger and a back up charger case in case of no electricity but would add earplugs absolutely essential if it is a noisy place.

Pyjamas  a top amd skirt  toiletries  shoes jacket a camera and a book.

Wouldn't go anywhere without my goats' milk bubble bath crystals and at least one scented candle!

Thea, the mind boggles

How do entice your goats into a milk bubble bath?

Do your goats get distressed when you take their milk bubble bath crystals?

Do your giraffes get jealous of all the attention you give to you goats?

Do you take part in Satanic rites?

Gentlemen...in answer to your questions...I do have very  hypnotic eyes...so beware...my "Satanic" rites can reach far and wide!!!

Hawkeye...no the giraffes don't get jealous...they're happy creatures and lead a very joyous.. carefree lifestyle. When I run out of goats milk...I milk them for all they're worth!!!!

The first and most important thing that gets packed in my overnight bag is my nice firm countoured pillow.

It actually goes with me everywhere, even to China and on a Mediterrenean Cruise. And it will be coming along to Morroco in a couple of months. I don't leave home without it.

Another Linus.

Another one off to Morroco... wonderful country Hawkeye...hope you enjoy it as much as I did on my visit a couple of years ago..

I hope you dont mind Thea...I just love your eyes...in fact I love them so much I am pinching them...

Only until tomorrow when the full moon is over...  lolol.

You're very  welcome cranky...I always carry a couple of spares. These produce a great "glassy" stare!!!

If you take medication please don't forget that. I agree with a small torch. If you aren't alone you don't want to walk into somebody. Also you could walk into furniture or other fittings. Not all places have light switches close to their beds. Also there could be a power failure. Been caught too often in places I'm not familiar with.   I also use the clock in my mobile phone.

Regardless of whether you are travelling or not -in your handbag or wallet - you should carry a list of next of kin and other emergency contacts with phone numbers, any medical conditions you know you have, medications you are taking.....and allergies. Medications and allergies are important as Medical Staff do not want to give you anything that could interact with current medications or any you are allergic. If you are sick or injured and can't give details, as much as they hate invading your privacy, and ambulance crews and staff in hospitals will check if they can find a list for the reasons above. 1. They don't to have to do tests not needed or give incorrect medication/treatment. It can mean the difference between life and death //quality of life. I have been advised to do that by Ambulance crews, Local GP, Emergency Dept in hospital, and a friend who is a Registered Nurse.  None of them knew it been suggested to me by others.
