Who killed Karen Ristevski?

The breakthrough in the baffling case came on Monday at 12.30pm when a bushwalker stumbled upon her body between two logs, not far from a dirt track off Loch Road in Mount Macedon Regional Park north of Melbourne.

On 11 September 2014, William Tyrrell, his foster parents and his five-year-old sister travelled four hours from Sydney to visit his foster grandmother in Kendall. His grandmother's house on Benaroon Drive is directly across the bushland road from the Kendall State Forest, about 35 kilometres south of Port Macquarie.

Between 10 and 10:25 am on 12 September, Tyrrell and his sister were playing hide-and-seek in the front and back yard, while his mother and grandmother were sitting outside on a rear balcony watching them. His mother went inside to make a cup of tea; she became worried after she had not heard him for five minutes and began searching the yard and house.

Shortly after, Tyrrell's father returned after going to Lakewood on business and began searching the street and door-knocking neighbours. At 10:56, his mother phoned 000 emergency services to report him missing and the police arrived at 11:06. His mother's last memory was that Tyrrell was imitating a tiger's roar "raaaarrrr" while running towards the side of the home, and then there was silence and he had disappeared.

??? It’s just so darned odd, for all the reasons other posters have outlined before. Just looks such an idyllic, peaceful location for something like this to have occurred. Two kids running around playing hide-and-seek and riding bikes on the driveway in a semi-rural yard … one disappears.

There’s another 42 sources listed at the end of the link above if anyone is interested in reading further.

“Police have also appealed for information about two cars — described as a dark grey old-model, medium-size sedan and an old white station wagon — that were parked opposite the house on the day William disappeared.” Detective Inspector Jubelin said there were questions about the cars that police wanted answered. "There seemed to be absolutely no purpose as to why they would be parked in that manner. You're looking at a semi-rural area, and it was a dead-end street. To attend out there, there would have to be a reason." Officers also want to identify another two vehicles that were seen travelling in Benaroon Drive around the time William was last seen. One was described as a dark green or greyish-coloured sedan. "That drove past the driveway of 48 Benaroon Drive, when William and his sister were riding their bikes on the driveway on the morning of his disappearance," Detective Inspector Jubelin said.

ABC story 2015.

Thanks RnR. Looks like his disappearance occurred in a 5 minute gap around 10.25 to 10 30. I wonder if the little girl saw or heard anything? She was playing with him when they were being watched up until 10.25 so where was she in the next 5 to 10 minutes?

They say it was a dead end street but from the maps you've put up it doesn't look dead end. The cars being parked opposite seem strange because it looks like the only house in that section. Maybe people parked to walk in the bush? If I was watching kids though and thought it unusual that cars be parked there I would not take my eyes off the kids. I wonder where Lakewood is in relation to Kendall and what was the foster father's business there? Seems strange you would go to the country for the weekend from the city and do business. Maybe he was just shopping or something but then why not shop in Kendall? Maybe he was off buying dope but then why would the police call that business? Hmmm...Lots of questions......

Robi, not much in Kendall, a small general shop, butcher, etc., and Lakewood is only about 7 kilometres away. It's not that big either but does have a Woolies.

It’s certainly been huge investigation.

The case has led to a record number of over 2,800 calls to Crime Stoppers alone since Tyrrell disappeared. The police have interviewed more than one thousand people in connection with the case. There have been 11000 documents created by the police. The search has gone global as far as Europe and the US. Crime Stoppers websites in up to 26 countries have been asked by the Australian Federal Police to post an appeal for information about the case. The police have identified 690 persons of interest to their inquiry and have called in other specialist squads within the State Crime Command to investigate many such persons as low-priority targets so that the rest are being questioned by "Strike Force Rosann".

Thanks again RnR. I searched maps, could find Kendall but not Lakewood. It sure is a complex case.

The genuine motive of all foster parents needs careful scrutiny

Robi, I accept what you say in your reply to me on the previous page, but I still wouldn't rule it out and I bet the Police didn't/haven't either, I would also tip they would have wanted to be sure that William was at the grandmothers place in the first place, another scenario to throw in the ring albeit very remote. I just hope against hope that he's OK but the chances are very slim.

Yeah I guess any scenario is possible Deanna. Looks like there is a lot more to this case than meets the eye. I hope he's alive and ok somewhere too.....

Thanks for your great pics. and info. RnR ..... :-)

Says in yesterday's paper that the reason  the police did not release the fact initially that William was in foster care was that it was on the request of DHS!  DHS has quite a bad "track record" of keeping children of all ages - safe!!

DHS should be embarrassed to the max. that they let these people foster William -  as both foster parents were "known" to police!!!  The whole scenario is so complex.  His biological father Brendan Collins has just recently been released from jail after serving time for drug offences!

The Sydney advertising agency (Insight) who is supporting/putting the billboards/ads. all over Oz is doing it "pro bono" - how nice of them!

Interesting Foxy ... sad that DHS who started with the best of intentions seem to have been overwhelmed by the number of cases brought to their attention by mandatory reporting (another well-intentioned initiative).

When I was working in a related field 10 years ago, the lack of funding meant they could only concentrate on cases of 'immediate danger', i.e. death. Obviously a situation fraught with danger for the poor kids who were in or who were placed in dubious circumstances. Just nobody had the time to help them ... so many other worse cases demanding their immediate attention.
