Your Toenails Tell A Story

a u.s. study finds that detecting the levels of nicotine in men’s toenails may hold clues to the risk of developing lung cancer, according to media reports.

the study divided men with smoking history into two groups -- a group involving 210 men developed lung cancer between 1988 and 2000 and the other involving 630 who did not develop lung cancer. the toenail clippings from both groups were used to assess the men's tobacco exposure over last year.

the results show men with high levels of nicotine in their toenails were about 3.5 times more likely to develop lung cancer than those with lower levels of nicotine, regardless of their smoking history.

I'm not surprised with this info Kika. In Chinese Traditional Medicine they can diagnose all sorts of conditions from examining fingernails - their colour, shape, ridges, lumps, bumps, half'moons, etc.

Even in Western Medicine we test samples of blood, urine, hair, bone, etc. Why not toenails? Much easier to give a toenail clipping for a test, I'd say.

I have a fascinating book called "Olde Wives Tales". People used to put their fingernail, toenail and hair clippings in the garden, then plant bean and pea seeds in that spot because they would grow so well. It was silica from the clippings, I seem to remember.
