Top 10 Australian destinations

Font Size:

Experience OZ has just announced Australia’s top ten destinations for 2014. Following a national consumer poll which they conducted, the initial shortlist featured 30 Australian destinations including the best cities, regions and hot spots.

With just under 2000 votes, participants were asked to consider the overall ‘Aussie nature’ of the destination, the variety of experiences on offer, the destination’s unique geographical features, attractions and activities, and culture or history in or around the destination among other factors.

Here is the top ten list for 2014:

1. Rottnest Island, WA – 2014 Winner

2. Whitsundays, Qld – 2014 Runner Up

3. Margaret River, WA

4. Gold Coast, Qld

5. Uluru / Ayers Rock, NT

6. Cairns, Qld

7. Sunshine Coast, Qld

8. Barossa Valley, SA

9. Ningaloo Reef, WA

10. Kangaroo Island, SA

I would have the Blue Mountains and the Warrumbungles on that list.

Cape York has to be one of the most inspiring and beautiful places. Need a good vehicle and tent.

Yes, there are certainly worthwhile places missing from that list! But based on “overall Aussie nature”, so you get what you ask for. Everyone travels for different reasons & some elderly can’t walk very far, so hiking is just not on. Viewpoints are my favourites & I enjoy world towers, giant wheels & chair-lifts/gondolas! In Australia for me, the Blue Mountains area ticks every box. Top points in this list to Cairns for the wonderful SkyRail.

There are oodles of places too numerous to mention, however one that stands out and in my opinion deserves more than a mere mention is the gorgeous Flinders Ranges.

And the winner is…….”Christmas Island !!”

My top destination is Tassie, can’t get enough of Tassie 🙂

No Victorian or Tasmanian destinations? Looks like everyone is chasing the hot climates, bet they don’t visit in summer.

Would like to see Kakadu and the Kimberlys on the list.
