For many Australians, the allure of the United States—with its sprawling cities, iconic landmarks, and diverse landscapes—has long been a siren call, beckoning travellers to explore its vast expanse.
However, the excitement of planning a trip to the US has often been tempered by the prospect of lengthy queues and tedious customs and immigration procedures upon arrival.
But now, there’s good news for Aussie tourists: a new membership program promises to make your journey to the US faster and easier than ever before!
Australia has recently joined the ranks of select countries in the Global Entry program, a move that is set to streamline the travel experience for eligible citizens.
This partnership comes at a time when tariff and trade tensions have been making headlines, yet it underscores the enduring relationship between Australia and the United States.
The Global Entry program is a voluntary initiative that allows travellers expedited entry into the US, meaning shorter wait times and less hassle when passing through customs and immigration.
As an added bonus, members are also eligible for TSA PreCheck, which offers quicker security screening at participating US airports. Imagine gliding past the long lines and starting your American adventure with ease and efficiency—that’s the convenience Global Entry offers.
Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke said, ‘This means shorter queues for Australian business travellers,’ emphasising the importance of maximising time spent on work and fostering business connections rather than being bogged down by airport delays.

This sentiment is echoed by Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong, who views the program’s expansion as a ‘testament to the closeness and friendship between our people’.
This program isn’t open to just anyone. Applicants must undergo a thorough vetting process and be deemed low-risk by both Australian and US authorities.
Once approved, membership lasts for five years, subject to annual background checks to ensure continued eligibility.
Initially, the Global Entry program was available to a limited number of Australians under phase one, but that phase has now closed.
However, new legislation passed by the federal government has broadened the program’s reach, making it accessible to all Australians starting in July.
This expansion is a significant step forward in facilitating travel and strengthening commercial relationships between Australia and the United States.
US Customs and Border Protection senior official Pete Flores has welcomed the decision, noting the shared commitment to safe and efficient travel.
With over one million travellers entering the United States each day, programs like Global Entry are essential in managing the flow of people while maintaining security standards.
Australia now joins an elite group of Global Entry partner countries, including Argentina, Bahrain, Brazil, Colombia, Croatia, the Dominican Republic, Germany, Japan, India, Mexico, the Netherlands, Panama, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom.
So, if you’re planning a trip to the US and want to avoid the long lines and start your holiday or business trip on the right foot, consider applying for the Global Entry program. It could be your ticket to a smoother, more enjoyable travel experience.
