Canada: travel agent tells all

Travelling to Canada always rates consistently high in our annual Bucket List surveys of members, especially so after Kaye’s latest visit.

To help you plan your own Canadian adventure, Ben spoke to Flight Centre’s North Lakes expert Charles Moscato, who explained there were many package deals targeted at the baby boomer market. Mr Moscato, who is Canadian, said that APT and Travelmarvel were two of the companies offering the best packages to older Australians, which sometimes included fly-free and business class offers.

If you want to traverse multiple destinations within Canada, Mr Moscato recommends booking with tour companies such as Trafalgar or Costsaver, which offer discounts for booking multiple-destination trips. One current good option combines an eight-day tour of the Rockies with another tour of the country’s maritime provinces.

Mr Moscato said there was no ideal time to travel to Canada as it depended on what sights you are most interested in seeing.

“If you want to visit the amazing Rockies or ski on Olympic Mountains you will want to head to the west coast between December and March for the best snow,” he said. “If you want to visit cottage country in the ‘Thousand Islands’ on the east coast of Ontario, you will want to be travelling during June to September.”

One of the best ways to save money on a trip to Canada is to travel at off-peak times.

“Flying into Vancouver and heading up to Whistler during April/May/June means you can ski on the glacier, play golf at a world class resort and swim in one of the many lakes, all in the same day,” he explained.
