Soon you’ll be able to tour the Titanic

Over 100 years on, and the Titanic still fascinates the majority of us, myself included. Whether it’s the love story featuring Leonardo DiCaprio or human nature’s obsession with disaster, the Titanic may be gone, but it is certainly not forgotten.

So much so, that one London tour company will be launching an once-in-a-lifetime experience to visit the shipwreck next year. Pointing out that far fewer people have visited the wreck of the Titanic than the number who have been to space or summited Mt. Everest, Blue Marble Private have designed the experience for ‘only for those with a truly adventurous spirit’ – read ‘deep pockets’.

Back in 1912, it would have cost $4,350 to travel on the Titanic in first class, so the eight-day tour will be priced at a similar level, costing a jaw-dropping $105,129.

So what do you get for all that outlay of funds? Beginning in Newfoundland, Canada, you’ll take a helicopter or seaplane to a yacht near the famous ship. From here you’ll travel to the wreck in a submarine and have the opportunity to dive down and see it for yourself. Featuring talks about marine biology, diving and history, travellers will be encouraged to help with the mission as opposed to just going along for the ride.

Clearly not the most financially viable, if you’re a Titanic fanatic there are thankfully plenty of other ways to get up close and personal with the past, including the world’s first replica of the ship being built in China, thanks to Australia’s own infamous Clive Palmer.

Find out more at Blue Marble Private and Titanic 2 Ship. Would you prefer to dive the original Titanic or experience the replica?
