Melbourne’s most delicious model

While it’s easy to bemoan premature celebrations of Christmas, namely by retailers focusing on their bottom line, there are some festivities that are worth getting excited about.

Now in it’s fifth year, one of those is without a doubt the Gingerbread Village, that is on show again at the Melbourne Town Hall through until Christmas Eve.

The masterpiece, which puts regular gingerbread houses to shame, is the work of EPICURE’s award-winning Executive Pastry Chef, Deniz Karaca, and his talented team. Comprising of 500 kilograms of gingerbread, 360 kilograms of royal icing, 150 kilograms of marzipan and around 800 miniature Christmas trees, the entire project took months and hundreds of hours to complete.

Designed to replicate Melbourne, some of this year’s new additions include the F1 Grand Prix circuit and St Kilda beach, as well as all the usual suspects including the MCG, Luna Park and Flemington racecourse.

Aside from the obvious sea of endless gingerbread, the best part about the entire event is all proceeds go to the Make-A-Wish Australia foundation, with the Gingerbread Village having raised over $80,000 in donations so far.

The perfect pre-Christmas event to take your grandkids to, the Gingerbread Village by EPICURE is open:

Tuesday December 1 to Thursday December 10: 10am – 6pm
Friday December 11 to Thursday December 24: 10am – 8:30pm
