More formally known as Aurora Borealis, the Northern Lights are actually collisions between electrically charged particles from the sun that enter the earth’s atmosphere, transferring their energy into light. Appearing in many colours, pale green and pink are the most common in auroral displays.
With Canada extending into the Arctic Circle, some of the more northerly provinces lie well within the aurora belt. Whitehorse in the Yukon Territory is a great option for a Northern Lights holiday.
Many companies offer tours centred around witnessing the Northern Lights over a few nights, leaving you plenty of time to experience some of the other sights which the Yukon and Canada have to offer.
