For a holiday rich in culture, history and relaxation you can’t go past Georgetown, in Penang.

Located off the west coast of Malaysia, Georgetown has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, thanks to the multitude of stunning colonial-era architecture and buildings.

Travellers delight spending hours exploring Georgetown’s streets, which are made up of a spectacular collection of historic buildings that have been very carefully maintained over the years. To walk through the town is like walking through an open-aired museum from a previous moment in time.

There are plenty of activities to do in this historic town as well, from visiting the Batu Ferringhi Night Market, to taking a guided tour around the city’s streets.

Food lovers will also rejoice, with the sumptuous culinary delights on offer. Time Magazine previously bestowed Penang the title of ‘Best Street Food in Asia’, while CNN recently ranked local specialty Penang Assam Laksa as the world’s seventh most delicious food. For travellers looking for the ultimate souvenir to take home there are a range of home cooking classes available. The Penang Homecooking Class provides a masterclass in Malaysian cooking, incorporating Nyonya, Chinese, Malay and Indian cuisine, in recipes passed down through generations.

To complete your stay in Georgetown, you can stay at one of the many boutique refurbished hotels on offer, such as The Straits Collection, or Clove Hall.
