Halloween happenings in the USA

Information supplied by Brand USA

No one does Halloween quite like America. From the extravagant costumes, outrageous parties and haunted houses, you’re never too old for a good old-fashioned fright. Here’s a round up of spine-tingling events taking place across America this Halloween.

Ghost Tours of Anchorage

Ghost Tours of Anchorage operate a special tour of the region, telling spine-chilling stories of supernatural sightings. The tour highlights Anchorage’s history and mystery, with some of its best stories told through past residents who are ‘not entirely departed’. No special effects or cheap tricks are used; no one will jump out at you from a dark corner. No matter your views on the paranormal, the story of Anchorage will take on a whole different meaning.

Woodruff-Fontaine Mansion, Memphis

Each year, Woodruff-Fontaine Mansion hosts a Halloween fundraiser known as Haunted Happenings. The event offers live music, food, games, a dark tour of the haunted mansion and a live paranormal investigation.

Historical Haunts Memphis hosts regular events each weekend around Halloween and into November (excluding Halloween night). Events include the Haunted Memphis Bus Tour, Haunted Pub Crawl and Woodruff-Fontaine Ghost Tour.

The Village Halloween Parade, New York City

The Village Halloween Parade might be New York City’s biggest party. Millions of people show up to join the spooky jamboree: 60,000 people march while two million watch from the sidelines. Ralph Lee started the event in 1974 as a puppet parade for his kids and their friends in the far West Village.

The route has changed a number of times as the parade has grown from a community event into an institution; in 1982, artist Jeanne Fleming took the reins – officially becoming the organiser in 1986, after Lee departed – and still runs it today.

Field of Screams, Montana

Located on Highway 93, just 4.5 miles south of Victor and 30 minutes south of Missoula, at Mile Marker 55, is the Field of Screams.

Pursuers of the paranormal can walk through paths of three metre-high corn and graveyards filled with walking zombies and the frightening chainsaw man set in a two-acre cornfield.

Fog-filled shrinking tunnels, graveyards, clown-infested playgrounds and the famous haunted Ghost Town are some of the other spooky attractions on show. The Field of Screams has been operating for 15 years and attracts thrill-seekers far and wide.

Terror Behind the Walls – Easter State Penitentiary (Philadelphia)

State Penitentiary was once the most famous and expensive prison in the world, but today stands in ruin, a lost world of crumbling cell blocks and empty guard towers.

One of the attractions, Infirmary, takes the fear of hospitals to a whole new level. In this newly revamped and interactive experience, visitors encounter maniacal surgeons, orderlies, dentists and nurses who are sharpening their scalpels for unusual and unnatural operations.

Terror Behind the Walls run select nights from November. Infirmary is the fourth of six haunted attractions that comprise Terror Behind the Walls.

Horror Made Here: Warner Bros Studio Tour, Los Angeles

This Halloween, Warner Bros Studio Tour Hollywood presents an all-new immersive experience created especially for horror fans. Warner Bros Studio Tour Hollywood: Horror Made Here has transformed the famed backlot into a festival of frights, taking guests into the most spine-tingling moments from some of Hollywood’s greatest horror movies.

Have you been to the US for Halloween? What was it like? Would you like to go?
