Think Singapore is nothing more than an artificial island? Think again.

Celebrating its Golden Jubilee in this year, you may find it hard to believe it’s been 50 years since Singapore sealed its independence in 1965. One of the world’s most multicultural cities, Singapore has a number of new developments making now the perfect time to visit this man-made mecca.

Made famous by the iconic, boat-shaped Marina Bay Sands resort, the Marina Bay area also features the amazing Supertree Grove. Located in Gardens by the Bay, these uniquely designed vertical gardens reach up to 16 stories in height.

Set to host the 28th Southeast Asian Games, the Singapore Sports Hub is another new attraction for 2015, as is the National Art Gallery. However, one of the major drawcards still remains the shopping, a sport in itself when you take into account the humidity.

Catering to every budget, it’s impossible to leave Singapore empty handed. Orchard Road continues to be the top-shopping street, although Marina Bay now encompasses more than five shopping malls. A more cultural experience can be found at Arab Street or the Singapore Art Museum’s very cool gift shop.

It may have been named the world’s most expensive city in 2014, but don’t let that stop you from seeing all that Singapore has to offer. And with Changai Airport consistently voted as one of the top airports in the world, why not stopover in Singapore this year?
