Singapore stopover ‘staycation’

Singapore has one of the world’s best airports and is a popular stopover for international travellers. Enjoying 24 to 48 hours of relaxation when you’re in transit is the perfect way to recharge. Here are five hotel suggestions for a superb Singapore short stay or vacation.

Sofitel Singapore City Centre
Transiting to and from the airport is a breeze at this new hotel located next to the Tanjong Pagar MRT station. Rooms are large and have a bathroom with a soaking tub, separate rain shower and divine Lanvin toiletries.

However, those staying in an executive club room will probably spend most of their time at the swish club lounge, Club Millésime. Some of Singapore’s best and most affordable dining can be found just down the road at Chinatown.

A complimentary phone with free data roaming and international calls to 10 countries, including Australia, is provided free-of-charge to each guest and can be taken outside the hotel.

Peranakan design and specially commissioned artworks reflect the surrounding area and add an authentic, local touch. Lofts have a mezzanine level and floor to ceiling windows, making these rooms seem larger than they are.

An enjoyable afternoon can be spent exploring the shops and boutiques in the nearby Arab Quarter or browsing the bustling Bugis Street Market.

If you want to leave the hotel:

Explore Singapore’s Peranakan culture
Peranakan culture is a blend of Chinese and Malay traditions and is unique to Singapore. Visit the Joo Chiat district, filled with colourful shophouses and a fascinating Peranakan Museum, which traces the culture from the 17th century to the present day.

Take a ride on the Singapore Flyer
Offering stellar views and informative commentary during each 30-minute ride, the Singapore Flyer is 30 metres taller than the London Eye and a must-visit on a clear day.

Spend an evening at Clarke Quay
What was once a bustling 19th century commercial hub has been transformed into one of Singapore’s most popular drinking, dining and shopping districts for locals and tourists alike. Drop in for a drink or something to eat and soak up the atmosphere.

Visit Gardens by the Bay
Stroll amongst the vertical gardens of the Supertrees, the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest conservatories and beautiful gardens at Gardens by the Bay, a free public garden in the heart of Singapore. Don’t miss the evening sound and light show. Entry is free.
