The world’s best bar is in London…

Now in its 11th year, the Spirited Awards for 2017 are some of the most sought after and prestigious in the industry, and take place as part of the Tales of the Cocktail festival in New Orleans.

Taking into consideration the menu, bar team, atmosphere and quality of cocktails, this year’s best cocktail bar in the world was Dandelyan in London. Located on the ground floor of the Mondrian Hotel in South Bank, the popular watering hole was founded by cocktail connoisseur Ryan Chetiyawardana. And, not only was it named best cocktail bar, but Dandelyan also walked away with two other major awards: Best International Hotel Bar and Best International Bar Team.

So, what does our resident Londoner think of this judgement? Well, somewhat unsurprisingly I am familiar with Dandelyan, having been there on a number of occasions. I’m a big fan of the Mondrian Hotel (it was around the corner from my previous office). Not only are the rooms and hotel of a high standard but the restaurant and two bars are worth visiting alone – a rarity for most hotels.

Dandelyan occupies a prime position right next to the Thames and boasts an impressive cocktail list that ensures it’s always a hive of activity. The knowledge of the staff is also notably impressive, as is the interior design.

That said, in my opinion it’s the Mondrian Hotel’s other bar that will always have my heart. Located on the 12th floor, the Rumpus Room has a conservatory like atmosphere to it – with its glass roof letting in an abundance of natural light. A large balcony runs the length of the rooftop bar, meaning the Rumpus Room’s outlook over Blackfriars Bridge to St Pauls Cathedral makes it one of the better views in London. With plush sofas, lush greenery and great cocktails, it even has live music on Wednesday nights, making it one of my favourite places to kick back and admire the city. If you’re headed to London I can’t recommend heading up there to have a drink enough … just don’t tell everyone!

Have you been to the Mondrian Hotel in London? Where is your favourite bar in the world?
