Best travel pants for women on a tight budget

As I scoured the internet for the top-rated travel pants, I realised two things. Firstly, if I didn’t want to spend $130 on a pair of slacks, then it’s likely that other women feel the same way. Secondly, I had never purchased a pair of ‘travel pants’ in my life and given that me and my legs have made it through all our travels just fine in their absence, they may not be as necessary as some brands would like you to think.

While I may not promote any fancy-pants brands, I definitely do promote making the most of your limited luggage space. When it comes to the pants you bring overseas with you, there are three things you should consider; comfort, practicality and versatility.

Leggings
It’s no secret that leggings are some of the most comfortable pants around. They’re generally light weight and don’t take up much space in your bag. They’re also fantastic if you’re doing a lot of walking or hiking. The only problem with leggings is they may not be considered modest in the countries you visit. In fact, United Airlines has banned passengers wearing them on their flights. In tourist-heavy areas or in Western countries you’re more likely to get away with them. One of my favourite duos is my full-length workout leggings – they have a pocket in the side, how practical – and a sarong that I tie around my waist when I enter temples or churches.

These Active Core Tights from Cotton On are simple and comfortable. They come in a number of other colours and designs that include pockets and mesh panels.

Price: $29.95

If you’d prefer a more upmarket brand you can checkout similar styles as lululemon or 2XU.

Wide leg linen pants
For walking around a marketplace, boarding a plane or going out for a nice dinner, a pair of wide-leg linen pants provide the perfect combination of style, comfort and versatility. Linen allows airflow to keep you cool, and is perfect for exploring during the day or travelling to warm conservative destinations.

This pair of Regatta flat front linen blend wide leg crop pants are perfect for travelling.

Price: $59.95

While $60 seems to be standard for a pair on linen pants, you may be able to find them cheaper if you wait for them to go on sale.

Casual slacks
A sensible yet comfortable pair of slacks is perfect for exploring at night or in cooler weather. A nice pair of trousers can be dressed up or down, allowing you to blend in with locals on the street or go out for a fancy dinner.

This pair of EZY ankle pants from UNIQLO are wrinkle resistant and come in light grey and navy.

Price: $39.90
