Jennifer’s insider tips to Seoul

Jennifer Doherty is the Marketing Manager for Korea Tourism Sydney office and has been promoting Korea for almost 30 years. She has seen the upsurge in interest from Australians travelling to and experiencing South Korea in recent years, and is very happy to share her knowledge and insider tips of Seoul.

Where do you find the best coffee?

Australians are used to drinking great coffee and in Seoul you can get your coffee fix at one of Aussie world champion barista Paul Bassett’s coffee stores at several locations in the city.

Where did you have the best cocktail?

The Top Cloud Bar & Grill atop the Jongno Tower building in the Seoul CBD is a beautiful venue to enjoy the sparkling city lights of Seoul whilst enjoying your favourite cocktail.

Where did you enjoy the best breakfast?

Korean style dumplings (mandu) are great for breakfast at one of the local food stalls, or if you are searching eggs and more, Aussie Bill Granger now has two restaurants in Seoul.

Where was the best local view?

For the best view of the city, take the cable car to the top of Mt Namsan to the N-Seoul Tower with its expansive view of the city of Seoul ringed by mountains.

What is one thing you can do for free?

There are heaps of free things in Seoul, but you can learn some of Korea’s history and culture by joining one of Seoul City’s FREE city walking tours to one of Seoul’s five royal palaces.

What is something that only a local would know?

Escape the city. Ask a local about great places to hike just outside of the city. Bukhansan National Park is close by, and easy and cheap to get to by subway.

What was your favourite thing to do in and around Seoul?

Eating my way around Seoul – from Korean BBQ to a royal banquet, traditional tea houses and diverse street food to fine dining, Seoul is truly a diner’s paradise.

Why do you love Seoul?

Seoul is one of the most dynamic, vibrant cities on earth, and I love the fact that it is open 24/7 – you can choose to shop at 3am or have fried chicken and beer at midnight if you wish.
