Last-minute Easter trip ideas

Looking for a last-minute Easter trip idea? Skyscanner has released the top five domestic and international holidays you can still book ahead of the Easter break.

Top five domestic getaways
Anyone who wants a quick getaway but doesn’t want to venture far from home, or who is on a tight budget, should consider these destinations where you can still find a good last-minute flight deal.

1. Gold Coast
Dependable sunshine, warm weather and a plethora of outdoor activities make the Gold Coast a prime spot for a long weekend away. And now is a great time to visit, especially considering all the buzz ahead of the Commonwealth Games in April.

2. Adelaide
Many call the Barossa Valley and Clare Valley the food and wine capital of the nation, but there are a host of other hotspots favoured by weekend warriors, such as the Art Gallery of South Australia, South Australian Museum, Central Market, and the city’s Botanic Garden.

3. Cairns
The Gold Coast is a popular holiday destination for many, but head a little farther up north to Cairns and you’re at the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, the Daintree Rainforest and myriad marvellous natural attractions.

4. Sydney
If the Harbour Bridge climb is high on your adventure list, then the Easter long weekend may be the time to do it, especially considering the cooler months are upon us. Venture into the city for good pubs, decent food and bars overlooking the Harbour, head to The Rocks and spend time meandering through the market or jump on a ferry and walk along Manly Beach.

5. Melbourne
There’s a reason it’s been the world’s most liveable city for six years running. Undoubtedly Australia’s cultural capital, Melbourne is home to heaps of events and attractions, featuring arts, architecture, food and live music. Make sure you catch the Triennial at NGV, book a show at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival or visit one of the many markets, museums, cafés and cultural hotspots dotted in and around the city.
