Aussies now allowed to fly to Thailand, flight schedule released

After originally announcing that Australia was not on the list of countries that would be allowed to visit Thailand when it reopened its borders, the Thai government has backed down and Australians will now be included.

The decision means that vaccinated Australians are able to visit the country without having to quarantine.

In addition to showing proof of vaccination, travellers must submit a negative COVID-19 PCR test result taken within 72 hours of their flight and undergo a second PCR test on the day or arrival.

Travellers must also book at least one night in a government-certified hotel where they can stay while waiting for the results of that on-arrival test and have medical insurance with a minimum coverage of $US50,000.

To facilitate travel to Thailand, Thai Airways has announced the introduction of non-stop services between Sydney and Phuket three times each week, starting from 8 December.

The flights will depart Sydney every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, while the return schedule will see flights departing from Phuket every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Thai Airways has also announced an increase in flights between Sydney and Bangkok from 17 November with four weekly flights operating non-stop.

Flights to and from Melbourne to Bangkok are expected to resume in April 2022.

Travellers to Thailand will also need to register for the Thailand Pass QR code at least seven days before their departure date.

Travellers can then use this QR code to display to the airline and screening officers at the immigration checkpoint.

To enter Thailand travellers must have also resided in one of the 46 eligible countries for at least 21 consecutive days before flying into the country.
